"Somewhere" continues somewhere ahead

After watching Sofia Coppola's "Lost in Translation," a lot of people thought it was good, but I actually didn't like it that much.

I chose to watch "Somewhere" because I wanted to see what kind of movie the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival gave. Actually looking forward to it. But most people feel that the film is quite satisfactory after watching it, and it is still far from winning the award. Actually I think so too. But the movie isn't that bad. I think it's okay, I can still give some encouragement.

First of all, although there are many scattered fragments on and off, the story is still very simple and easy to understand. To put it simply, a father who spends a lot of time with his daughter, starts to examine himself, and finally chooses to start over.

The actors are brilliant and I think the actors saved the movie. Elle Fanning's sensible appearance made me love so much that I couldn't love it any more, and Stephen's tears made my heart twitch. Their performance is so in place, it is commendable.

Then Sophia's strengths have a good continuation. But taking the plain route seems to require a little stronger storytelling, and what she does is not so easy.

The climax is not obviously a hard injury, and then some other aspects are needed to remedy it. Obviously this is not right.

But I still like this story.

Restart the journey and continue from somewhere ahead.

    Cleo: Hey.

    [beat]

Cleo: Why are you taking a bath next door? Is yours broken?

    Johnny Marco: ...yeah.

  • Johnny Marco: What's that book about again?

Cleo: It's about this girl that's in love with this guy. But he's a vampire, and his whole family's vampires. So she can't really be with him.

Johnny Marco: Why doesn't she become one too?

Cleo: doesn't she become one too? Cleo: Because she can't. He doesn't want to turn her into a vampire. And if she gets too close to him, he won't be able to help himself.

    Johnny Marco: Oh, man.
