After watching the show, I almost forgot that Jude Law was the actor, but I often think of Lenny.
It seems that in the Vatican, which is far away from us, in a parallel world, there really is Pope Pius XIII. He had no parents, and his spiritual father died, as did Dussolier. At the same time he was in a high position, he was also lonely and longing, as if the little boy finally grew up, but his pain will always remain in the Pope's heart. He's poisonous, he's hard to figure out, he's too confident in his looks, and he only drinks cherry-flavored Coke. But I feel that he is most afraid of betrayal and separation, and he is most afraid of not being accepted. He seems to understand all the psychology of people, so he avoids the believers. In fact, what he hopes most is their love. I even think he didn't show up because he was scared, afraid of the disappointment they would have if they showed up. An abandoned him, all his arrogance and domineering are covering up his still fear.
I really liked the part where he and his good friend Dussolier went out to the Vatican to buy cigarettes, the prostitute said, God is in your eyes. I think his feelings for God seem to be similar to his parents (in other words, his parents pretended to be the Virgin of God), he prayed sincerely, and sometimes had anger and resentment, but in the end he was looking forward to their appearance and his love definitely.
I feel bad for him. It was heart-wrenching that Esther left a picture of him and the child without notifying him. From the love letters he didn't send, from his prayers to God, I could feel what a delicate and sensitive person he was. He cherishes every love he can have and has had, although he is always betrayed.
I hope he's all well, he can still pick and choose in the Vatican, and he and Voig are disliked by each other, and he can chat awkwardly with all kinds of little fans, and he can still be so confident in his beauty. Drive people to Alaska at every turn. I like him like that, not the sad, lonely boy who's been longing for Mom and Dad to come and get him back, because that's so heartbreaking. I believe our arrogant Lenny will be a very good Pope in the Vatican in a parallel world.
