Movie: "They Don't Grow Old Anymore" UK
This is a war documentary filmed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the victory of the First World War. The content is full of real pictures taken during the war at that time. Through the form of the survivors who participated in the war, it leads the audience into the crazy battlefield.
At first I thought it was a war movie, but when I looked back, I realized that all the clips were real pictures, not post-production. I kept seeing pictures of violence and more and more corpses later. How people who go through war persevere to the end.
At the beginning of the film, the atmosphere is joyful. According to the recollections of the participants, they were all teenagers at the time. When they heard that Britain was going to go to war with Germany, the country needed adult men to serve the country. Some were under 15 years old, but they lied that they were adults, and their thinking was for glory, to fight for their country, and even some boys just wanted to experience the feeling of fighting.
Not only do they have to learn how to use guns in the army, they are also forced to learn simple cooking, sewing clothes, etc. After a series of training, they officially enter the battlefield and begin to realize the seriousness of war. Death or survival is unknown.
When you reach the battlefield, the real test begins.
They don’t get enough to eat and sleep well every day. Every day, three groups of people take turns to sleep for a few hours, and then another group of people sleeps when they wake up. They can’t take off their clothes to sleep. All they did was wait in the trenches for an order to charge. During this period, the death toll continued to increase, and the bodies of their comrades could be seen everywhere, and they had accepted the facts.
When it came time to actually go to the front to fight the Germans hand-to-hand, everyone suddenly woke up: what is the significance of this war? What is the meaning of human beings fighting each other?
As the film drew to a close, I kept thinking, what is the point of war? These young people who gave their lives may have never thought that they would not have the opportunity to grow up. When they participated in the war, they must have thought that one day they would return home to receive praise, but they stayed on the battlefield forever.
They weren't born to go to the scene, like in the film, "German soldiers are good people, I think they should have been a barber or shopkeeper or something, but like us, he had to wear military uniforms" . This is a helpless sincere word. When they are on the battlefield, ordinary people may live in fear, but they are definitely not as dangerous as they are, but maybe this is a person's life. In the long river of history, these people will have their mission.
After watching the film, I just want to sigh: war is ruthless, peace is priceless, thank the human beings who have dedicated everything for peace, and cherish peace.
