desperate silence

This is an unusually quiet movie. You sit there, and you can hardly hear anything. If it wasn't for Takeshi Kitano's stubborn habit of advocating violence, I'm afraid your ears would have fallen asleep.

Usually people are very calm when they are desperate, and the film itself tells the quietness of this hopelessness. The daughter's death; the partner's accident; the wife's incurable disease, and it all followed. If Xi, as the tired and useless police detective, was still trying to save the world that belonged to him, then when he puts on his sunglasses later, you will feel that kind of real despair, and it will be so quiet.

The amazing thing is that when a person is truly desperate, the world becomes manageable: Xi can rob a bank calmly; he can reveal the truth to the car seller without hesitation; he can easily fight back against all the forces that oppress him. The whole world seemed to have suddenly become a jigsaw puzzle of the wife's game, which could be spelled out in any shape at will. In this desperate stillness, one looks bright and optimistic. A poet once wrote a poem: "...only the pessimists speak freely", because the so-called pessimists are those who have not yet despaired.

Many things are not necessarily expressed in words, such as the love between Xi and his wife, which I deeply realized after watching the movie. There is almost no verbal communication between Xi and his wife in the film, just some small silent movements and eyes, you can really feel that affectionate and heartbreaking love. Like the moment when Xi snatched the cigarette from his wife's hands without a sound; like the embarrassed expressions of the two before the fireworks were released; like the slight smile on his wife's face after the bell rang against the season; like seeing his wife fall into the snow. In the middle, Xi's nervous expression... Love pervaded the entire space, but it was silent. Are West and his wife really desperate? Yes, in this seemingly hopeless despair, they quietly waited for the doomed ending.

At the end of the film, you don't even feel sad, thinking that everything is so arbitrary, so quiet and sweet, and even the way Xi finally ends his life is just two gunshots in the face of the blue sea.

At the beginning, I watched Kitano Takeshi over 10 days a day, so this film was classified as the second group. I will watch it again on the big screen a few years later. I want to give it a five-star impulse for a few seconds.
