Foreword: This era lacks heroes.

Under the persuasion of his father, for the sake of Bai Daoshang's younger brother Ajie, Hao, the gang leader, is determined to retire from the arena after completing the last transaction. Unexpectedly, he was betrayed by his subordinate Ah Cheng without knowing it. For the sake of a friend, he chose to surrender himself and put himself in a cage for three years. Brother Xiao Ma took revenge for Brother Hao, and unfortunately he was shot in both legs and became disabled for life. Three years later, Brother Hao was released from prison and found that Ah Cheng had successfully ascended the throne and ruthlessly humiliated the down-and-out brother Ma. Brother Hao wants to be a new person and show it to Ajie. As Uncle Jian said, the road of the underworld is easy to get out of the upper body and difficult to escape. Facing Ah Cheng's viciousness, and facing the persecuted brothers and friends, does Brother Hao "get up" or "can't afford it"? What is he going to insist on?

He always wanted to prove to Applejack that he could start all over again, if Applejack gave him a chance. The helpless black-and-white and pure Applejack, after all, does not want to believe him. So he took a chance on himself, and rose up for his friends and brothers. In the end, he won this big gamble. Ajie really understood himself, understood the involuntary nature of people in the arena, and the love of the rivers and lakes. The so-called hero is to adhere to the principle, to be responsible, to be able to take it, and to let it go.

In the whole film, Dillon plays the brave brother who is brave and tender, and has a strong sense of righteousness. But no matter how you look at it, he is a good man. He put himself in prison twice for his friends, and washed his hands for his younger brother Jinpen. But as a hero, Heili can be the eldest brother, and he can persevere to the end. As Uncle Jian said, there is no need to be afraid of anything. I really admire it.
There is no principle in the play, and A Chenghei, who has no bottom line, is thorough and ruthless. The story starts and ends because of him.
As for the little brother, he likes his dashing, gracious, and reckless turn around, which is a perfect explanation for brotherhood. He is arrogant, with clear love and hatred, and wants to be his own god and control his own destiny. He did it and became a hero. And this hero is not surnamed Ma, surnamed Li, mark Li.

As Wu Yusen's most proud film, in the golden 1980s of Hong Kong film, it was also decided to be regarded as a masterpiece. Watching this film at the film festival, in addition to paying homage to the master, does indeed feel such a feeling, which is lacking in our era.

Postscript: In an era without heroes, I just want to be a person.
This is a sentence printed on the bf t-shirt. I don't understand what this sentence means. I just think it is more suitable to put it here than anywhere else.

I still remember a sentence from Brother Ma: I have waited for three years, just waiting for an opportunity. I'm not trying to prove that I'm better than others, but to prove that what I've lost must be taken back with my own hands!

The true character of the hero embodies the value of Hong Kong gangster films to the extreme from the level of personality and ideology
