I would say that the rate here is definitely under appreciated.

It's a super captivating, moving and sincere movie. It is truly a masterpiece at portraying the intergenerational and intercultural conflict. But at the same time, the movie also resonates with many universal emotions and dreams.

The stories are quite relateble. I cried several times while watching this movie cause the issues are just so real for me. My favorite part is when Rose waking up, finding her value and shouting out in the rain. The journey for one to truly value himself/herself is always hard.

I would HIGHLY recommend this movie to any girl who asking for movie recommendations!

There always seems to be some mysterious connection between Chinese mothers and daughters. Imperceptibly, no matter how much a daughter dislikes her mother, she will always find herself the same mother to another girl in the future. In fact, what I admire most about mothers is that mothers always understand the grievances of their daughters, but they don't cry.

The Joy Luck Club quotes

  • June's Father: You know, ever since Mommy died, it's like a mystery where everything is. She hides everything, jewelry, even fake stuff. For three years she tried to tell me where she hides everything in case she died. I guess I wasn't listening.

  • June's Father: She thought: better not die next to my babies. Nobody saves babies with such bad luck. Who wants two babies with ghost mother following them? Very bad luck, very.
