glimpsed eternity

"Eternity and a day"

finally watched "Eternity and a day" completely from beginning to end, and it is a big screen, which is really a blessing.

His eyes moved slowly with Angelopoulos' poetic lens, and his heart was also awakened softly. His emotions accumulated bit by bit, and he couldn't help himself. Leaving the dark space, the inner joy is the joy of encountering the great mind.

Angelopoulos' understated cinematic language, Eleni Karaindrou's poignant, almost heart-stopping melody, gave me a few moments of glimpses of eternity.

Angelopoulos is too great and too rich. On the way home, I told my friends that if I had the chance, I would watch Eternity and a day again, so that Angelopoulos could nourish his soul.

Revisit this inner free, heavy poem. Metaphysical thinking and torture, perhaps from the moment we left the Garden of Eden, we have lost the ability to answer the ultimate question, and the seeds of nostalgia are sown. I just learned today that Angelopoulos died in a car accident half a month ago. Watching this movie, I miss him and pay tribute to myself.

"What is time? Time is a little boy playing sandbags on the coast." This analogy is really good. Time is not malicious, no matter how long or short, neither the port nor the wider world can answer the questions I asked my mother when I was a child. Loneliness is an excuse for not being invested enough, forever or just one day.

Eternity and a Day quotes

  • Alexandre: All passed by so quickly. This suspect pain... my stubbornness to want to learn,to want to know... then the darkness... the silence around me... the silence. All made me believe that before the end of winter with the ethereal silhouettes of the boats, and their sudden breakthroughs in the sky, with the lovers along the promenade,in the declining sun, and the hypocritical promise of the spring, all made me believe that before the end of winter... My only regret, Anna... but is it only one?... is not to have finished anything. I left it all as a draft, shattered words here and there.

  • Alexandre: I once asked you "how long will tomorrow last?" and you answered me: Eternity and a day.
