The desperate "King of the Sea"

The proliferation of superhero movies will naturally spawn anti-superhero movies. Anti-hero movies are of course more difficult to make. Insufficiency will be regarded as being sick, moaning and clever, and after passing it, it will be more like a hero movie. In a certain way, "King of the Sea" actually belongs to the latter. Whether it is a comic book fan or the Avengers, although they all come from the reality in the movie, in the eyes of the masses in the movie and the audience outside the movie, they are no longer ordinary people. Of course "King Haibian" itself is mediocre, but his growth trajectory is comic or heroic. The difference is that he is not from an alien planet or was bitten by a spider.

Is "King of the Sea" a superhero movie? Of course not, the unscrupulous and heroic carnival of "King of the Sea" is not to celebrate but to break. In "King of the Sea", the heroes are quick and the public’s blind worship of superheroes, as well as gorgeous killings, etc. In addition to the irony of traditional superheroes, behind the laughter there is also the reality of why superheroes are popular. A deeper reveal. In this world full of greed and violence, there are many things that systems and rules cannot solve. When facing or discovering problems, for individuals, either involve themselves in the dark, or use fantasy to balance themselves.

In the film, the revenge father and daughter and the "King of Haibian" are different examples. The former faces the tragedy of family destruction and family suicide. Especially for the father, only revenge is left in his heart and he can only rely on himself to fall into serious paranoia, and deeply affect his daughter. Although the revenge of the father and daughter in the film is pretty cool, it is actually full of bitterness. The problems encountered by "King Haibian" are much smaller. Although he also wants to uphold justice because of this, he can completely withdraw from him and continue his normal life at any time. In reality, most people are just like the "King of the Sea". When they encounter minor problems or see other people's misfortunes, and are powerless or unwilling to cause further trouble, they dream of a superhero who saves the world.

"King of the Sea" is very different from the previous "Defender", which is also a superhero to host justice and revenge. The tragedy of "The Defender" heralds hope, while the comedy of "King of the Sea" is a faint despair.

Chris D'Amico: Under control? You're grabbing a fucking bazooka, you dumbass!

Huge Goon: [looks at Frank] Sir?

    Frank D'Amico: Do it.

  • [last lines]

Dave Lizewski: [voiceover] Kick-Ass was gone but not forgotten. And my world was a lot safer with the new generation of superheroes. They said I was their inspiration. But all I did was open a door to a world I'd dreamed about since I was a little kid.

[cut to Chris/Red Mist in his father's office]

Chris D'Amico: A world full of superheroes, eh?

[Chris turns around, showing his revamped Red Mist costume, and dons a new, decidedly more 'supervillain' mask]

Chris D'Amico: As a great man once said... wait 'til they get a load of me.
