Bad masterpiece

This would have been a very outstanding work, but it turned into a terrible masterpiece.
Those pretentious mediocre people should have chills after reading it. They shouldn't be given another dose of anesthetic, because everyone knows that they will never get rid of it, and Tang will always be the drunken talker. No daydreams, no placebos. Tang will always be Tang, maybe a minute later, maybe a day later, he will be the same. But the ignorant people spoil them without scruples and help them grow.
It was not Tang who was really guilty, but Helen who spoiled him and turned into a monster.
The ending is just a good wish, an unrealistic fantasy, not a realistic appearance.
Billy arranged the most successful ending for the film that turned into a missionary film, but he couldn't hide the vainness inside.

The core element of the play's structure is desire. Resistance, defeat, and surrender lead to greater traps, which are interlinked. Created a very charming heroine, tenacious initiative, and played the role of savior.

I didn’t expect it to be such a film, which is basically an official propaganda film for alcohol withdrawal. It does not win with the complexity and subtlety of the storyline, but focuses on the mental state and psychological monologues after alcoholism. It's basically a one-man show by Ray Mirand. It's so good for him to pinch the swing mentality of a drunkard, and he deserves the best actor. The film won four Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Actor in 1946

The Lost Weekend quotes

  • Wick Birnem: If it happens, it happens and I hope it does. I've had six years of this. I've had my bellyfull... Who are we fooling? We've tried everything, haven't we? We've reasoned with him. We've baited him. We've watched him like a hawk. We've tried trusting him. How often have you cried? How often have I beaten him up? Scrape him out of a gutter and pump some kind of self-respect into him and back he falls, back in every time.

Helen St. James: He's a sick person. It's as though there was something wrong with his heart or his lungs. You wouldn't walk out on him if he had an attack. He needs our help.

Wick Birnem: He won't accept our help. Not Don, he hates us. He wants to be alone with that bottle of his. It's all he gives a hang about. Why kid ourselves? He's a hopeless alcoholic.

  • Don Birnam: Let me have one, Nat. I'm dying. Just one.
