What are your legs? Steel springs! How fast are you going to run? As fast as a jaguar!

For Mel Gibson, my impression of him comes from the movie "Brave Heart", and I believe everyone is the same. However, Gallipoli, as an early work of Mel Gibson, seems a little uninterested. At that time, Mel Gibson was still a young Australian actor (not well-known) and was a bit young, so he participated in this Australian native film. (This is also my first time watching an Australian movie)

The film tells about the war between Australia and Turkey during the First World War (Battle of Gallipoli). Young athletes (unfamiliar with this actor) join the army with the male one (Mel Gibson) and are involved in the Battle of Gallipoli. Their humanity is tested on the battlefield. . . . . .

What impressed me most was the Gallipoli battle in the last quarter of the film, which showed the cruelty of the war to the audience in an extremely explicit way. The traditional tactical assault during the First World War was used in the battle. The Australian military. Under the strong firepower of Turkey, it seemed so vulnerable. The first wave of assault was annihilated, and the second wave was the same. In the third wave, the messenger played by Mel Gibson did not give a timely order to stop the attack. Passing it back led to another tragedy. . . . . .

Classic quotes from the film: What are your legs? Steel springs! How fast are you going to run? As fast as a jaguar!

Gallipoli quotes

  • [last lines]

Frank Dunne: [Frank is running back to Trench to tell them to stop the attack] Gangway! Gangway! Gangway! Urgent message!

Frank Dunne: [the whistle blows] Gangway, NOOOOOOOOOOO! AHHHHHHHHHH!

  • Sgt. Sayers: As you all know, this morning's exercise involves a frontal assault on an enemy trench, the enemy being some "gentlemen" from the Light Horse. These "gentlemen," presumably because their asses are higher from the ground that ours, tend to assume airs of superiority. But, they won't have their horses with them today, so I want you to go out there this morning, and short of actually killing them, show them the stuff the infantry is MADE OF!
