[Not a drama review]

I didn't intend to catch a glimpse of the promotional photos of the American drama "The Act" many months ago-

too horrible.

At that time, I was so frightened by the posters that I searched for the plot along the way, stunned and dare not look at it.

The theme of the series is about the murder of the girl Gypsy Rose Blancharde. It is based on a real crime. One of the screenwriters is the writer who published a crime report on Buzzfeed three years ago. The author Michelle Dean spent a long time preparing the report, and read it in one go. Original link: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/michelledean/dee-dee-wanted-her-daughter-to-be-sick-gypsy-wanted-her-mom

Gypsy, a healthy girl, was controlled by her mother Dee Dee Blancharde with drugs and lies to control her personal freedom and safety since she was a child, showing that she is weak and thin, stunted, and her life is in danger at any time.

Almost everyone sees it as a model for caring mothers who have gone through hardships to raise their seriously ill daughters. And Gypsy finally became unbearable and conspired with her online dating boyfriend to kill her mother.

There are many evils in the world, and it is sad that the flesh and blood are harmed.

This mother, Dee Dee, is likely to suffer from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, or Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

The symptom of this disease is that even if the person who is dependent on one's own care is clearly not ill, he uses criminal means to cause him to become ill or even to death, in order to attract attention and love. Some famous hospital murderers are patients with this type of syndrome.

I suddenly thought of this drama recently. I flipped through the cast list and found a lot of actresses, from Patricia Arquette as a teenager to Chloë Sevigny as the boy don’t cry. How deep...), to Brooke Smith of the Silent Lambs (she played in the movie the son of a senior senator who was kidnapped and raised by Buffalo Bill to be rescued and finally rescued)... The lineup is very attractive.

So boldly watched it again.

Because I was mentally prepared, the film didn't seem so horrifying.

The two starring mothers and daughters performed well. The audience saw mothers who created illusions to control their daughters at all costs, and daughters who had long relied on their mothers and were no longer willing to break free from imprisonment. (The most disappointing thing for the audience is that Gypsy could have tried to leave Dee Dee independently after discovering the truth, but did not do so, right)

The actors and the overall effect of the series should all be aimed at maximizing the closeness and restoration of the incident, without trying to explain the cause too much, but laying out the details of the changes in the lives of the two, allowing the audience to make their own judgments.

Two episodes with deep personal impression, one is that when Dee Dee is killed, the camera flashes back to the scene of Gypsy's birth; the other is that Gypsy had sex with her boyfriend again after her mother was killed and before she left home.

Going back to the beginning, the promotional photos of the series were horrifying, but I always felt familiar, as if I had seen similar compositions.

I thought about it, and finally remembered, a mysterious and thrilling allegory painting that I saw in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence-

Allegorical Scene by Emilian School 1550

I remember when I first saw this painting, I was shocked. Xin asked, is this mother crazy? Why is she trying to strangle her child to death.

In particular, I have seen thousands of exhibits, none of which is so weird, terrifying and cruel.

There is very little information about this painting. The introduction of Uffizi Gallery stated that the subject and the author are both a mystery. In the inventory notes of 1589, the subject was "a woman stangling a putto", that is, a woman who strangled a little angel or a cupid.

Therefore, the adult woman in the painting is not necessarily the child’s mother, but I first feel that the two are a mother-child relationship, and the child’s life is firmly grasped between the two hands, will kill but not kill, full of control cruelty. Mother.

I don’t know if the poster design of the drama draws on this painting.

Regardless of whether or not, the theme of the work presents a twisted psychology of adult women.

There may not be many mothers who really bear the heart to kill their children, but there are countless mothers who want to put their children under the control of their wings forever.

2020.02.21 Supplement, there is another work, the composition is very reminiscent of the aforementioned paintings and posters:

Girl with a Kitten Lucian Freud Oil paint on canvas 410 × 307 × 18 mm 1947

No matter how much you hate your parents, you can never dig them out of body and spirit. It doesn't help to kill her. Therefore, Nezha debones and cuts meat. The mother-daughter next door appeared as a control group, but in a slightly bland setting. Love those shots of the door. From DeeDee to G to Nick, the acting skills of all members exploded!

One more American drama that I've been following recently. Also based on true events. This case shocked the entire United States: a daughter who "couldn't walk" instigated and abetted her online dating boyfriend to brutally kill her mother who had taken care of her for more than 20 years. The case also has a corresponding documentary called "A dead mother is a good mother". The restoration of this drama is very high! The appearance of all the actors and the settings of the plot scenes are very close to the facts, and the actors' acting skills are all online. The plot goes from a beautiful opening to the abyss of evil. Behind every crime is a sad story. When we talk about crime, we are not talking about the case itself, but reflecting on the ailments of society as a whole. This is a painful lesson and a torch.
