The beauty of green hills and green valleys

Just finished watching "Green Hills and Cuigu", a very sad but warm movie. The plot of the whole movie is actually the epitome of the miserable world. The same characters described by Dickens live in the shadow of poverty, hunger, unemployment, strikes, and mine disasters, but they are sad and not hurt. This is also the charm of this movie.

The voice-over at the beginning of the film reveals the protagonist Huw's fond memories of his parents' emerald valley in a positive tone. In his eyes, the coal mine did not completely destroy its beautiful emerald green, although it was full of cinder, garbage, and smokestacks. What power is this that makes the miserable mind still have a pair of eyes to discover beauty? It is love, the protagonist's love for his father, the reverence for Pastor Guffett, and his immature and responsible responsibility and love for his widow and sister-in-law. Although the whole movie is full of bible music from beginning to end, and the father will read the Bible to the children when they leave home, they must be grateful for the gift of God before eating, and they must dress and go to church for mass every week. But the God they trusted and loved did not bless everyone as they had hoped. The mine disaster took away the eldest son of the Morgan family and the old Morgan. Unemployment caused the other four sons to go abroad to make a living. The old mother was sad and sad. The look in his eyes, that murmured that the children were not far away, they were all still in this home... This scene showed their strength and patience. A happy life also needs to be created by oneself. Pastor Gefitt’s final speech was not actually a disappointment to some church members, but to spread the truth, spread the truth, spread the truth, preach and educate everyone. But the facts do not follow his wishes. It is worth pondering for the audience.

The narration at the end of the movie says that people like his father will never die, and the soul will live forever, just like the green hills and valleys, which are always gestating life and full of vitality. To give the audience a beautiful ideal is also a beautiful expectation for the world.

[strikes Mr. Jonas with a right jab, the force of which knocks Mr. Jonas into the wall]

Dai Bando: Now, you see, that is how you will punish your man - with a right and a left, and put your shoulder into it!

[Mr. Jonas is slumped against the wall, dazed]

Cyfartha: The gentleman is talking to you!

  • Dai Bando: Position again.

[Dai Bando and Cyfartha drag Mr. Jonas to his feet]

Dai Bando: Could I have your attention, boys and girls? I am not accustomed to speaking in public...

    Cyfartha: Only public houses.

    Dai Bando: But this -

[backhands Mr. Jonas in the nose, sending him sprawling]

Dai Bando: never use. It's against the rules. Break a man's nose. Now then -

[turns to find Mr. Jonas collapsed against the wall, unconscious]

Dai Bando: I'm afraid he will never make a boxer.

    Cyfartha: No aptitude for knowledge.
