I read the original first

Few movies can give me such a feeling. After reading the original work, I feel that it is not as rich in content as in the movie.
Although I have heard about this movie for a long time, I haven't seen it. Later, I accidentally found a book titled "The Fountain of Youth" in a bookstore, so I bought it, and one night I finished reading it when I was alone in the dormitory. This book is actually a little philosophical story. It is not very long and does not have too many ups and downs. It tells the story of a little girl Winnie Foster who one day meets a strange family. A series of stories were triggered.
Because of an accidental opportunity, this family drank the immortal spring water. As a result, they would never grow or die in the future. After they learned this secret, they no longer cherish time, but the people around them began to alienate them because they were a little unusual, which also caused them to change their residences constantly. Through contact with every member of the family, Winnie learned about their experience and their mood at this time-they did not get happiness because of immortality. In the end they left some spring water for Winnie, but Winnie didn’t drink it. She still lived through her life like a normal person until she died... This story tells us: Although many people hope to live forever, when one day people really When people are able to live forever, people may stop cherishing life for this, so the most important thing in life is not the length of life but the ability to cherish every day of life.
Later, I finally saw the movie. It should be said that the film has changed a lot from the original: for example, the heroine Winnie was adjusted from 11 to 15 years old, and the family's youngest son Jesse was mentioned as the leading actor. In fact, in the movie, it is no longer described with Winnie as the core as in the original, but transferred to the mysterious family. In other respects, the chronology has moved a little bit back from the original, and some descriptions and plots that are not in the original have been added. The film shoots such a simple and philosophical short story into an emotional blockbuster, but the relatively peaceful ending in the original works looks slightly sad in the movie. What is the effect of this adaptation, the benevolent sees the wisdom, I should say that I still agree, because the philosophy contained in the original work has not been lost in the film, and in the end it has not changed the ending of the original work.
The relationship between Jesse and Winnie is involved in the original book, but it's just a brief mention. Of course, maybe Winnie's age in the original book is too young to imagine the love related to her. In the movie, because Winnie's age has increased, there are more descriptions of the emotions between Jesse and Winnie. For Jesse and Winnie, the relationship between them has a certain meaning: Jesse's age is always set at 17, and Winnie can still grow up like a normal person. Now they both like each other, but in this way they will face many problems in the future, because this special attribute will make the age gap between them bigger and bigger. So Jesse hoped that Winnie could drink the spring water, so that their attributes would be the same, and they could be a young lover forever. But after careful consideration, Winnie finally chose to give up drinking spring water and become an immortal, still getting old and dying like a normal person to finish her life... Finally, when Jesse came to that small town again, in the cemetery I saw Winnie’s tomb, combined with the background music at this time, a kind of sentimental came out spontaneously...

  • [the Man in the Yellow Suit is speaking candidly about immortality]

Young Pastor: You speak blasphemy, sir.

Man in the Yellow Suit: Fluently.

  • Angus Tuck: If there's one thing I've learned about people, it's that many will do anything, anything not to die. And they'll do anything to keep from living their life.
