Roco brothers

As one of Lucino Visconti’s masterpieces, this film tells the life of a poor and unsophisticated family of five in southern Italy in the 1960s that went north to Milan. It mainly revolves around the ups and downs and love of the second child Simon and the third child Roco in the boxing world. Under the contradictory circumstances, the entire originally united and harmonious family almost fell apart. The director did not attribute family conflicts completely to social changes, but instead projected more of the self-disintegration of personal beliefs under external temptations and desires. The handsome and melancholic image of Alain Delong almost guided the melancholy tone of the whole film, and the filming under the director's quiet shots aggravated the film's melancholic and tragic atmosphere.

  • Morini: Purple, the color of champions and showgirls.

  • Nadia: The same stupid story, you know, a girl's honor, etc. That's all they care about. What's a poor girl to do, just vanish?

    Vincenzo Parondi: No.

Nadia: Just imagine if all the girls like me vanished? Can you imagine?

Vincenzo Parondi: Yeah, there'd only be us men left.
