I watched this movie because of Ang Lee's recommendation.
Ang Lee said: "Actually, this is not my favorite movie. I can continue to list many movies I like, but for this year, it should be this Israeli movie. This year I serve as the chairman of the jury of the Venice Film Festival. And the Golden Lion Award was awarded to this film. This film is really exciting. The whole film was shot inside a tank, which is impressive. This is an exciting and quite special film production. This film may not be on the list of what I think is the greatest film in my life, but for this year, this film touched me."
After reading it, I think this perspective is very good: a glimpse of the war from the tank. Show the cruelty of the war from various details, with a small glimpse, such as a poultry truck hit by a tank, a shopkeeper who was killed, a child who ran away, a mother who lost a child...
One detail that shocked me more is: the young protagonist has no live ammunition experience, and his heart is full of fear and anxiety, because one shot is a life. His eyes were wide open, and his hands were shaking too much to hold the wrench. This detail is so vivid, I also entered it directly. I was sad for a long time because of this violent inner conflict.
In the war, before a soldier becomes a murderous madman who kills without blinking an eye, they also have this process, and then they become numb, leaving only goals and tasks, without humanity.
