Recently, I watched two movies in a row, one is "Our Godfather", a documentary about sweet memories, and the other is "Traitor", a gangster film that adds more energy. The protagonist of the two films is the same person, Domaso Busida, the leader of the Mafia, known as "the boss of the two worlds."
Speaking of the Mafia, it has a long history and attracts people's attention. Produced in Sicily, Italy in the 13th century. The initial establishment was said to be to resist French aggression. In that era and that kind of region, there were a lot of secret associations in the countryside, and the same was true for our old brothers' associations here. It was originally a secret gang united by poor peasants to survive. The so-called "I take care of the things that the government can't manage." Do things to uphold justice from time to time. In World War II, he also helped the U.S. Army fight Nazi Germany in Sicily. This also opened up the U.S. government to the development of the Mafia in the United States. Later, with the passage of time, the organization gradually expanded, controlled the agriculture and animal husbandry on Sicily, collected protection fees, and established its own authority. And extend this method to Italy, and then to the whole world.
The Mafia is well-organized, with a special committee to mediate the relations between different groups, and has formulated many rules, such as the "Law of Silence" as we know it. However, the Mafia does not have a complete purpose, nor does it have a lofty goal. By the middle of the last century, the mafia organization had undergone a transformation, from resisting aggression and supporting justice to a criminal syndicate that sold drugs, murdered people and sold goods. They have accumulated a lot of money through drug trafficking and kidnapping, and they have also attracted people's hatred. The remnants of justice and charity that helped the weak and the poor were all defeated before the offensive of money. Because of the interests and the territory, there were frequent vendettas between the various families, which caused many infighting. As the film said: "Everyone has money because of drugs. They started to be more greedy, more violent, and less faithless."
The two films introduce the vendetta between Busida and Ina in the Mafia and the subsequent effects caused. In this long-term battle, Busida's two sons, two cousins, one younger brother, and son-in-law acted as ghosts. Falcon, Busida's most trusted judge, also died. The fierce fighting and the pain of bereavement made Busida finally make a bold decision: to cooperate with the government, to break the "silent test", and expose the evil deeds of many mafia. 366 Mafia were arrested. Become a traitor to the Mafia. The life after him was not easy. Under the protection of the US government, he hid in Tibet and never lived in one place for more than one year. Until he died of cancer.
"Traitor" describes in detail Busida's testimony in court. It is a pity that the translation of the Chinese subtitles of the film is really bad, and the dialogues of the characters are basically incomprehensible. But it is also very interesting to look at the scene of the trial at that time. There are many judges sitting on the stage. The lonely seat opposite the judge belongs to the witness Busida. Behind him are hundreds of lawyers, representing the arrested Mafia. The semicircle on the outermost circle is a lot of rooms with iron fence doors to keep the criminals inside. Just as Busida was about to testify, the mafia in the outer circle began to make a fuss. Some shouted "traitors", some suddenly schizophrenia, and one even sewed up his mouth. The whole court became a whole. madhouse. This kind of "free" atmosphere is really hard to understand. Of course, the final verdict was well received, and the criminals received their due punishment. This was in 1987.
In people's eyes, the Mafia is undoubtedly an evil force full of sins. In order to obtain wealth, they have done many unrighteous acts, causing countless good people to ruin their families. They should be punished and condemned regardless of law or morality. But here, I will avoid legal justice and moral norms for the time being, and see what factors make these people embark on this road of no return.
In the classic movie "The Godfather" about the Mafia, Marlon Brando, who played the old Godfather, once said this famous saying: "Everyone has their own destiny." I personally appreciate his words. Unknowable fate makes people become rich or poor, or become farmers, doctors, men in science and engineering, celebrities, and homeless people. Or a smooth life, or a rough fate. Under normal circumstances, the choice that fate provides to people is the only one. People think that this arrangement is natural and obey the arrangement of fate. To engage in what should be done under this arrangement. For example, if you become a police officer, you have to maintain public order, uphold the law, and fight against evil forces. Similarly, if you become a mafia, you are going to kidnap hostages and you are going to sell Heroine. It's easy to take people's lives, and it's easy to give your own lives. This is just like being a policeman, it's only natural. Colleagues around you are doing the same thing as you. But once you feel that this thing is not suitable for you to do, and are determined to change your destiny, then you have actually fallen into a gamble at this time. We often envy those who give it a go, but in real life, there are not many such people, and most of their results are not good. Beethoven once wanted to "strangle the throat of fate" and offer us so many beautiful movements, but in his later years he needed the sponsorship of his colleagues to live on. In "Red and Black", Julian tried to change his fate through his friendship with the noble lady, and the last thing waiting for him was the guillotine. Maybe one of them succeeded, but that doesn't mean that most people can also follow suit. The odds of this success are really very low. The reason lies in the environment in which you live, the level of education, the perfection of self-cultivation, the cultivation of character and quality, etc., etc., all of which are indispensable. These factors are completely different in the other life you desire.
In the film, Busida has a scheming plan. With his experience in the world, he is going to be a traitor to the Mafia. He cannot be ignorant of the risk of this gambling. He said: "I don't care about my life, I just want to protect my family." He is fully prepared for all possible situations in the second half of his life. He said: "I am going to die on my own bed." Fortunately, his last wish was fulfilled. But in the film, we can also see that he was tortured by the Sicilian "traitor" spit, and he spent the rest of his life in displacement. He loves Italy and desires to live in Italy, but he has always lived in an unknown place in the United States. Using a fake name makes me nervous all day long. I don't know, is there any fun in his life under the protection of multiple agents?
My opinion is, don’t try to fight against your fate, and only seek your own happiness to the maximum in the space you can choose under the arrangement of God.
"Traitor" was shot in a documentary style. Therefore, the basic plot is similar to "Our Godfather". Even the actors are very similar to real characters.
My score: 6.5.
