The film begins with a segment of North Korean training agents. Its cruelty is unbearable for ordinary people. During the training, real people were used as the targets of murder. North Korean agents are often full of blood. As a South Korean director, filming such a persistent and cruel aspect of North Koreans, I think that during the filming process, the director felt uncomfortable. The development of the brothers and feet to this stage is a tragedy.
Hyun, the girlfriend of the protagonist Ryu, has always been a suspicious figure. Soon after the film began, when the two were dating, deep down, Hyun said, "No matter what happens, you must always be by my side and understand me", as if Hyun already knew what was destined to happen. Moreover, spies are often the closest and most unexpected people around.
North Korea and South Korea are of course in sharp contrast. As an agent, you need to go deep into Korea, live in Korea for a long time, and interact with Koreans deeply. I remember when I was watching the film, a friend of mine asked, Hyun came from North Korea, and when he arrived in South Korea, she was not tempted to see that South Korea is so much more developed than North Korea? I think this is the reason why we cannot judge a person by rational choice in many cases. Many people’s actions are not motivated by rational choices, but by unsuspecting beliefs. Obviously, Hyun and other North Korean agents believe that socialism is a better political system and treat South Korea as a sibling compatriot. They think they should unify the country under the socialist system. Perhaps when the belief is sublimated to a certain stage, it will appear that the North Korean agents kill their own siblings without blinking.
When another male protagonist discovers that the secret is hidden in the belly of the fish in the office fish tank, everything has already been prepared. Hyun sells goldfish. Hyun is suspicious. There is a bug in the belly of the fish. At this point, the gangster around him understood.
When Ryu confronted the North Korean male agent at the stadium, the North Korean agent sadly told about the horrors of people's lives in North Korea, as if everything should be blamed on South Korea. Ryu responded well, all of this was because one person made a wrong decision. Everyone and every country chooses their own path, and the corresponding consequences should be borne by themselves. This is not the fault of anyone else. Perhaps because of brotherhood, North Korea can’t let go of South Korea, and is always looking forward to the reunification of the motherland. I think South Korea is the same, but it is not as eager and extreme as North Korea. Two brothers, holding different beliefs, but always want to be tied together, how can they not fight?
The last moment Ryu shot Hyun to death was moving. Both faced the test of the disagreement between faith and love. Ryu chose faith, while Hyun chose love.
Good film!
