I don't know if it is appropriate to translate GOOD into a good person, it seems to be a passable. I think GOOD here means "yes", "just so", and "passed". It is not only a good subjective attitude, but also a reaction and judgment to objective changes.
The protagonist in the film is an ordinary person. The only difference from us is that he is very professional in writing, and it is precisely because of this that he can be put under the spotlight.
He is not a bad person, he has a conscience. However, he also has desires and vanity. Like most people, he stubbornly shows no integrity in front of power. It is also difficult for him to persist in becoming a dutiful son in front of a long hospital bed.
It is such a person who is controlled step by step by a joke, and finally loses everything. Unlike the frog thrown into the pot, the protagonist can be aware of the danger, but in the face of temptation he pretends that it does not exist, or does not want to believe that it will get worse. And when the benefits are implemented one by one, the protagonist feels that it is a matter of course, completely ignoring his friends who were oppressed under the control of the Nazis. It wasn't until the conscience was finally endangered that he came to his senses, but there was nothing he could do.
Didn’t the Nazis come to power like this? The difference between us and the protagonist lies in his ability to allow it to benefit from "evil", then weigh and judge and make choices, and under the same conditions, we can only be killed without choice.
What if we can make a choice?
