The imperfect interpretation of the perfect kidnapping case in "Catch That Guy"

Ten years of time passed by Kim Sang-kyung, but he didn’t leave much trace on Kim Sang-kyung’s face. He in 2013 "Catch That Guy" looked no different from 2003 in "Reminiscences of Murder". He is still handsome and handsome. Brows furrowed. The difference is that the criminals in "Reminiscences of Murder" escaped from the law and got away with impunity, while the movie received extremely high honors and was even evaluated as a "perfect crime film"; the policeman played by Kim Sang-kyung in "Catch That Guy" found the truth , And ultimately bring the criminals to justice, but it is not enough to change the mediocre facts of the film.
With the same protagonist, the same role, and the same genre, the final film presented is of great contrast in quality. Once again prove the director's decisive role in a film.
"Catch That Guy" revolved around a kidnapping and murder case that was more than 15 years in prosecution period. Two clues are extended. One clue is that the police officer played by Kim Sang Kyung, Goh Ching-ho, experienced the incident 15 years ago and has since been involved in the case. Unable to extricate herself, but at the last moment of the prosecution period, she still passed by the criminals and resigned in anger; the other was the mother of the kidnapped girl Xizhen, who hoped the police could do something in her pain, and finally found that she could only rely on herself the power of.
The first half of the film spent a lot of pen and ink laying out clues and setting up suspense, portraying the criminals in the murder and kidnapping case into the image of a perfect criminal. Wu Qinghao has repeatedly described this case as a "perfect crime." After 15 years, no clues have been found. The criminal is undoubtedly an extremely meticulous high IQ. However, just after the prosecution period, another kidnapping case exactly the same as the case 15 years ago occurred again, which extended the third clue of the film: the grandpa of the kidnapped girl this time.
At this point in the film, the rhythm is still very tight and organized. The audience knew in their hearts that this third clue would inevitably be mixed with the first two and become an opportunity to solve the case, and they are increasingly looking forward to the following plot.
But it was also from here that the film began to get out of control. In general, the loss of control of a movie is often because the director has not handled the relationship between the clues and the clues, which causes the film to become chaotic. The loss of control of this film is different. It seems that the director suddenly loses the power to hold the director’s rod, and several clues twist into At the time of the first one, the conflicting nature of the film should have reached a climax, but suddenly weakened. Even if there is a reversal in the plot, it will not be able to carry the strength accumulated before. Although it's still not unfinished, compared with the first half, it can only be regarded as a continuation.
The reason for this situation is that the third clue is the grandfather who kidnapped the little girl for the second time. As an extremely important role, the director has too little on him. Inferring from the setting of the film, this grandpa should never be simply led by the nose, and he should have his own opinions and even ways to deal with the kidnapping incident. Because only in this way, after you have watched the movie and understood the whole plot, can you play the role back and forth in response. The grandfather shown in the movie really gave people the feeling of nodding at the beginning and end, and it became the film’s failure.
The other name of the movie is "Montage". Montage is meant to refer to the stitching of different shots in film production. There is a set of montages at the beginning of the film. The nightmare scenes of Xizhen's mother who experienced the kidnapping 15 years ago kept flashing back, suggesting that she still can't get out of the pain at the time. But in the sense of the whole film, montage refers to the recurrence of the same kidnapping case after a lapse of fifteen years. This is indeed a very good idea. Many classic crime suspense films have similar plots. Criminals express their disdain for the police through this even ceremonial way, which stimulates the audience's desire to find out. "Catch That Guy" uses this criminal method even more ingeniously, but unfortunately, the focus of expression is somewhat deviated, resulting in a decline in the quality of the entire film.
I don’t know if Kim Sang-kyung would often think of the scene when he filmed "Memories of Murder" ten years ago during the filming of this film. Maybe he missed the then young director Feng Junhao, and he would miss Song Kanghao, the fat man with small eyes who made the play extremely easy.

South Korea’s current genre films are really good, the plot structure is intricate, and they can be filmed smoothly and freely, which is really getting more and more moist. An unsolvable kidnapping case of children, until the truth came to light, the criminals completely pleaded guilty to the law, and they were able to reverse the plot twice. I was amazed.
