The movie started with a shooting in the village. After committing the crime, the murderer sent a letter to the newspaper with a code. He admitted that he had killed someone and asked the newspaper to publish his letter truthfully, otherwise more people would be victimized. . The murderer will not stop killing. Our task will be to find the murderer as soon as possible. This task falls on the hands of two policemen, a newspaper editor and a cartoonist at the newspaper.
I don’t want to let go of any details when watching such a film: any small screen flashing (remember the flashing in Fight Club?), any short line, any noncommittal expression, even any small I concentrated all my attention on trying to catch all the clues. I don’t want to let the murderer escape under my nose. I don’t want to fool the director at the end of the movie.
The four men in the movie are nothing commendable except working day and night. They shuttled across places and crowds, they kept talking, they were buried in various documents and papers, and they were doing their jobs, unremarkable. The killer does not seem to be as brutal as imagined, at least the movie does not deliberately reflect his brutality. His so-called brutality is in the real sense, not in the sense of the movie. In the movie, there are no corpses and flesh and blood. It's nothing, can't arouse the audience's sense of horror. And the killer is not so unpredictable, because all the passwords he sent to the newspaper have been deciphered, even for non-professionals who study history. In this ordinary time, time is passing, one month, three months, one year, two years... the movie is as calm as stagnant water, the murderer is still at large, and the media keeps reporting this mysterious zodiac killer. The killer image soon appeared on the movie screen. The protagonists in the movie watched the killer's performance in the movie, and they are exhausted but helpless. Their time, life, and family are also gradually passing away in the process of tracing the ordinary killer.
This is Vinci's movie, it can't be so plain, stop kidding me, the murderer must be there, and the ending must be unexpected. I hold this belief unwaveringly, just like the cartoonist in the movie, he has the same firm belief, yes, he found the clue, he deciphered the code, yes, he found the murderer, it was him. Oh, sorry, the murderer was not caught, because the handwriting test denied the suspect he had found. You can have very reasonable assumptions, but when you go to court, you need evidence, and the handwriting does not match. Is this a joke of reality or a joke of the director? In any case, nearly three hours of film narration dragged the time to the 1990s, more than 20 years later. Those who pursued them were old and even killed, but the murderer was still not caught. In this gray-toned narrative, the movie ends.
There was no bloody, weird, thrilling, and tortuous as expected, and the ending was not unexpected and unpredictable, but there was no end in desperation. Nothing was caught, nothing was caught, only crazy. I was extremely disappointed. This disappointment was almost the same as the protagonist who could not catch the murderer in the movie. Oh my God, this is the director's goal, this is the director's joke, to be disappointed in the curiosity, and to grow old in the curiosity, without catching anything! I just copied the boring and plain pursuit plot in the movie outside of the movie: the movie characters contributed the most precious years of their lives to the Zodiac serial murder case, and I dedicated my most precious life and brain cells to David .Finch. "Zodiac is not the point, the people working at him is". Then I have to say that the movie is not the point, the point is that we outside the film are captured and fooled by David Fincher's movie!
If you can't realize that you are being fooled, then all the praise dedicated to "Zodiac" and David Fincher will be a lie, and it is tantamount to praising the flatterer in the emperor's new clothes that does not exist.
