After watching the movie "The Beach" starring Leonardo, I noticed that its label is "Utopia", which is exactly the explanation of "Utopia" in the text - an ideal society that realizes public ownership in the imagination. Compared with the content of the film, I personally think that its label is inappropriate. Perhaps the creators of the film did not label it as utopia, but it was a misunderstanding by some audiences.
In my opinion, the filming of the movie is as beautiful as a paradise, but the living conditions of the characters and the beauty and ugliness of human nature are the epitome of reality. A group of young people who are curious or out of escapism or adventurous come to a secluded place. Temporary pleasure in the scenery. Both the look and feel of the film and its core are not in line with "public ownership" and are quite different from "ideal" and "beautiful", and "impossible to achieve" is even more ironic. If you go on vacation in a place where you can grow marijuana for money, and return to civilized society to buy some modern things every once in a while, then it is not difficult to live this kind of life. But after a while, most of them will panic and disgust.
In fact, the theme and tone of the film are traceable. The young Lizi is handsome and childish, and is very suitable for playing the ignorant young man in the movie who pretends to be an explorer. At the opening of the film, a young voice told the audience that he was looking for fresh excitement elsewhere. The high-spirited young man had just arrived in an unfamiliar country and drank disgusting snake blood for face. We know that he does not have any Western utopian feelings, nor does he understand the beauty of the Oriental Peach Blossom Land. He just recklessly explores with a brain of enthusiasm, so as to accumulate some courageous temperament and resume similar to his personality. After sitting for more than ten hours in Thailand, he found that it was just a different place to watch TV. When he met a French girl he liked, Richard needed some more exciting adventures to feel that the trip was worthwhile. Show your bravery in front of girls. So the spooky traveler and a mysterious map just got his wish.
Before leaving, Richard left a map for a few young people to start a thrilling journey. The hail of bullets before arriving in a better world paved the way for the following group of reclusive young people who "don't dare to come out". The trouble of a map can easily expose the selfishness and ugliness of the leader, breaking a seemingly peaceful and beautiful world, then a group of vicious drug gangsters will become an excuse to stay in forbearance. Otherwise, after escaping from reality for a short time and staying away from civilization, most people would choose to leave, the perverse performance of the traveler who was depressed to the point of madness, the sad eyes that wanted to go out to seek medical treatment because of illness, and the excitement that saw Richard arriving for the first time. There is a false and beautiful lie hidden in the hesitation that can't help but stop talking.
If the film conveys the relationship between man's spiritual pursuit and nature, I personally think that what the film should express is that human beings should not leave their negative emotions and escapism in nature and think they are at peace. Why should the originally peaceful beauty be unconditionally tolerant and accepting of human beings? Waves of people came, first embraced the sky and the earth with excitement, then they made a noise, then they demanded and plundered, and finally when they got tired, they threw a pile of rubbish and went away.
Regarding human nature, the paradise on earth has been reduced to sinister rivers and lakes, just for a moment. Richard had just proudly boasted that he had killed a shark, and then his partner was bitten to death by a shark. Perhaps it was the shark's drive and revenge on humans. Ironically, the hero who killed the shark, for the sake of comfort, was involved in the act of leaving his wounded comrade in the wilderness. Human selfishness is more terrifying than shark teeth.
The dramatic ending of the movie, where the gang mercifully let them go is a little weird. The leader seems to stop everyone from escaping because she is reluctant to give up the community she has built. The other members couldn't hold back their strong urge to return to civilization, so they took advantage of this opportunity to disperse. In the end, Richard looked at the e-mail in the lively crowd and smiled lightly. The photo seemed like a phantom and a dream...
