"Doomsday": The end times are not for entertainment

In retrospect, the first trailer for the movie was like a pretense.
Tsunamis, hurricanes, landslides, ground fissures... The beginning is a series of disaster scenes. Knowing a little about the story, I couldn't help but wonder at the time: Is this a disaster movie? !
After reading the book, I became more and more worried about the "apocalyptic entertainment" temperament revealed in the trailer.

After watching the movie, I found out that a pretense is a pretense, and it cannot be taken seriously.
The movie is very faithful to the original work. Although the loss of the original text power is almost doomed, the core content of the novel is concentrated. The style of the images is extreme, cold and dark, filled with a solemn apocalypse-like temperament. Even if the film does not reach the level of the novel, it is still deeply moving. When I saw the end, I burst into tears again. The collision of despair and affection is always unbearable.
Favorite scene is father and son sitting on the beach. Two figures, one big and one small, were sitting blankly, wrapped in a heavy blanket, and then the little man slumped onto his father. The world is old and the world depends on each other, which is probably nothing more than that.
I have always felt that this story will not make me feel ashamed to the end, but what moved me unceasingly is the meager hope of "we will not die", "we are good people" and the last humanity.

At the beginning of the movie, as soon as the man appeared on the screen, my impression came out: Viggo is so thin. I don't know how much Viggo has lost weight for this drama. When it comes to the bath scene, it can almost be described as skinny. As for the performance, the biggest feeling he gave me was exhaustion. The exhaustion that penetrated from the inside to the outside was so weak that the movements were always like struggles, and the despair was only the strength of tears.

The boy character is my biggest regret about this movie.
Looking at the comments before, it seems that the little actor is very good. I agree, can't say it's bad acting. But the image shown can't match the boy in my head. I feel that the boy in the novel is only six or seven years old. It is said that the crew has also been looking for a young actor for a long time, and the children of the same age are not competent to perform. Kodi Smit McPhee.
Kodi looks a bit like Charlize Theron who plays his mother, showing the kindness and angel side, but the child's fear and weakness are lacking. As a result, I always feel that the child is too mature and not young enough. Not stupid enough either.
Of course, this might just be another rehearsal of the "a thousand Hamlets in a thousand readers" cliché.

Nowadays, there are too many movies with the theme of the end of the earth, which can be disasters, science fiction, warmth, and entertainment. In contrast, "Doomsday" is by no means "good-looking". In such an era shrouded in crisis, how many people would go to the cinema to watch such a gray and desolate movie, to face an apocalypse that does not provide entertainment and is filled with despair. As a result, I can't help but be a little more considerate of the film's promotion and planning of "sheep's head and dog meat".

Watching "Doomsday", it's hard not to think of "2012", and the more and more I feel that "2012" exudes the atmosphere of entertaining the public, and then somehow I think of a poem by Viggo - a well-groomed graveyard that smells like popcorn , a tidy cemetery that smells of popcorn.

At the end of the world, when human nature is gone, there may still be family affection left.

I believe that the end of the world is what is depicted in this movie. It is not the zombies in power, nor the landslides and the destruction of human beings. McCarthy's original work is really powerful. There are not many lines in the movie, but most of them are very meaningful. The plot is relaxed and emotional, and I am stunned by Duvall's appearance. A few minutes of performance is enough to win the best male supporting role, and Viggo's acting is at the level of Oscar male lead.
