continued watching the HDTV version of the film. Also, the film's high IMDB250 rating made me curious.
The film tells the story of six people between France and Turkey. An old man from Turkey has lived in Germany for many years, raising his son to become a university professor. The old man was lonely and wanted to pay a prostitute from Turkey to accompany him. The prostitute had just been threatened by the religious, so she agreed to the old man. But within a few days of getting along, the old man suffered a heart attack and was admitted to the hospital. In this way, the old man was put in jail. Knowing that the prostitute had a daughter, the son came to Turkey to help her go to school. When the son could not find his daughter, he bought a bookstore and lived in Turkey. The daughter of the prostitute was actually an armed man who was captured by the Turkish government and fled to Germany. My daughter was kicked out by an organization in Germany to live on the streets, and she met a German girl who helped her eagerly. German girl lets her daughter live in her home despite her mother's objection. Subsequently, the daughter had a relationship with the German girl. The daughter was quickly caught by the police in Germany, and the German girl used her mother's money to help her seek political asylum. A year later, the daughter still has to be sent back to Turkey, and the German girl came to Turkey despite her mother's objection. The German girl is going to continue to help her daughter, so she rents a room for her son and plans to live for a long time. The daughter passed a note to the German girl when she visited her asking her to help pass the pistol, but she was robbed after taking the gun and was shot to death by the robbery child. The German girl's mother came to Turkey sadly, while her son's father was sent back to Turkey. After meeting her son, the German girl's mother reminded him of her father and forgave him. In the end, the son went to the coast of Turkey to find his father, the mother stayed in Turkey, and the daughter was released from prison because of the death of the German girl.
This is yet another film about the Turks in Germany, very similar to Brave. I checked the information and it turns out that the two film directors are the same person. In this case, I also understand the director's intention, which is the theme of this film: to express the influence of the Turks and Germans on their lives through the film story, and to reflect some of the current conditions of the two countries. To put it bluntly, the film talks about the intricate relationship between two countries and people, as if the Chinese were shooting a movie of "Chinese in America".
The way the director of this film tells the story is to use three stories, which is very novel, and the structure is a bit like a ring structure, but it is not closed. But its essence is still about the birth, aging, illness and death of life, and it adopts an "accidental" way. Through the story of the movie, we can know that the mother died by accident, the daughter met the German girl by accident, the German girl met her son by accident, and the death of the German girl was also very accidental... In short, the story of this film tells the audience that life has no rules, everything happens by chance, and life and death are just random.
In addition, the film also shows various aspects of the two countries of Turkey and Germany, such as the legal system, religion, the conflict between Kurds and Turks, and so on. These are necessary in a movie that reflects reality, and I've seen it so much that it doesn't feel like it. It's nothing more than a conflict of human nature, ideas, and religion, cliché and naive.
The filming aspect is quite satisfactory, and there is nothing unique about the narrative. In addition, it can be seen from the video footage that there is not much difference between Turkish and German cities. The biggest difference between the two is that there are many more mosques in Istanbul. As for the robbery of children on the street, this happens in areas with poor law and order.
Most of the actors in this film are very ordinary, except for Hanna Schygulla's performance, which is a little moving, everyone else is quite satisfactory. The actresses who play Turkish characters are ugly, especially Nursel Köse. Are there no more beautiful women in Turkey?
in conclusion. It's a well-structured and story-telling film that reflects reality at the same time, and it's a decent art film.
