Everyone has a Brokeback Mountain in his heart

Everyone has a Brokeback Mountain in their hearts. This was what director Li Ang said back then. What he meant is not that everyone has a homosexual plot in their hearts, but that everyone has a part that is not tolerated by the world. This part can only be released in a place like Brokeback Mountain, where it is dead and secluded. If it is revealed in the world, it will be opposed and persecuted.

Homosexuality is an example. Conservatives say that homosexuality will destroy the foundation of the country and society and threaten the survival of mankind, so they do their best to oppose it. But they refused to spend the same effort on opposing smoking. Earlier, left-handers were another example. The address itself is full of discrimination, as if you are used to using your left hand when you are born, you will walk a crooked road, and you will get dark one by one.

There are many more examples. Although the reasons for persecution and discrimination are different, in the final analysis, the reason is only two words: a minority. Compared with heterosexuals, homosexuality is a minority; compared with "right-handed", left-handed is a minority. The minority is an alien, and there is no power. Most people can safely form a group, reject the minority, oppress and persecute the minority, and obtain the satisfaction of psychological security and superiority.

But is this really safe? Today, are all kinds of support for gay rights and opposition to discrimination against minorities just a game where all kinds of bored people who have eaten up pursue fashion and show their mavericks after the progress of social civilization?

No, of course not. Because we know that: everyone is born equal is just a slogan, but everyone is born different, it is like an iron reality. God does not use the same model to reproduce human beings. Since everyone is unique, then in a certain way everyone must be a minority in this society. Therefore, this kind of support and this kind of anti-discrimination is not out of the so-called noble "compassion" and "fraternity", but completely out of everyone's own interests. Today we don’t have to judge others by the “majority”, and we will not go to court tomorrow because of our “minority”. So we are not fighting for them, we are fighting for ourselves.

The majority is composed of many specific "minorities". We hope that everyone can live the life they want without hurting others, everyone has the right to be "different" from others, and everyone can have their own Brokeback Mountain. If this is just an unrealistic fantasy, then we are also willing to be proud of this dream.
