An unexpectedly good movie

Among the giant beard images, my...favorite one. At that time, because this film was rarely mentioned, I only watched it near the end, and the rhythm at the beginning was very slow and the tone was extremely depressing. I almost went to watch it with the feeling of almost watching it after watching it, and I didn't expect to get a good movie unexpectedly.

This plot is generally relatively plain (it can even be said to be a running account), and the director is also very self-reliant, but the quality of the subject matter and the script is there, and it can't be worse.

Set in 1865, US President Abraham Lincoln is assassinated, a woman, Mary Surat, is convicted as an accomplice in the assassination of the president, and Mr. Akin, played by Yimei, is appointed as her defense attorney.

There was national outrage over the assassination of the president, and Akin was no exception. He was originally a fighting hero, and became a lawyer after he came back. He reluctantly defended Mary. At first, his attitude was relatively negative, and he was a little bit like going to the sentence and being overthrown. After further investigation, he found that Mary was most likely innocent, just a bait used by the government to capture the real prisoner - Mary's son, so he tried every means to prove her innocence, but in the end he lost the case and Mary was sentenced Hanging.

The tone of the entire film is almost unchanged, the dim and gloomy sunlight, and the stagnant and oppressive air, just like this doomed trial. Seeing Yimei struggling so hard to find evidence but being rejected one by one by other judges using their powers without permission, makes people feel powerless and frustrated. However, in fact, the director did not tell us whether Mary in history was really innocent, whether she really participated in the assassination of her son who covered up her crimes, or whether she was really just an ignorant mother... We can only see A calm, indifferent, motherly woman.

Cicero's famous phrase "showing no law" was used by the old American to flog the corpse with fairness and justice in this movie. They clamored for the constitution and power, but this seemed to be forever short in front of the country.

Finally, I would like to say that although the director of this movie was out of control and accidentally made a running account, the screenwriter's work is really too great. The deep thinking of the whole script is completely reflected in the excellent lines, especially Akin in court. The above debate is a classic:

For the lawyer as well as the soldier, there is an equally imperative command. That duty is to shelter from injustice the innocent, to protect the weak from oppression and, when necessity demands, to rally the defense of those being wronged.

After the most thorough investigation in our nation's history, the government's entire case against Mary Surratt rests on three acts: one, her acquaintance with Booth; two, her alleged instructions to Lloyd; and three, her nonrecognition of Payne . It is these three acts that constitute the sum total of Mary Surratt's part in this traitorous and murderous conspiracy.

By themselves, they constitute no crime. And one of you or I might have done the same, but the government insists she did them with evil intent, largely based on the testimony of two men, John Lloyd and Louis Weichmann. Yet, at best , the actions of these men undermine their credibility and, at worst, they have done the unspeakable…they have gained their freedom by falsely accusing another of their crime.

There can be no doubt as to the principal and real reason that Mary Surratt is here today. It's because of her son, John Surratt. He invited Booth into her home. She did not. And he hid rifles and ammunition in Lloyd's Tavern. She did not.

If John Surratt was part of this conspiracy, I pray to God that he receives every punishment known to man, but if his mother can be convicted on such insufficient evidence, I tell you none of you are safe.

Members of the Commission, do not the this injustice to Mary Surratt in permit by sacrificing OUT our Sacred Rights of Revenge. Too MANY of uS have have Laid Down our Lives to preserve Them.

(lawyer Ye Hao, Ye Hao soldiers, there is a urgent mission. we have an obligation to go Justice for the innocent, to protect the weak against oppression, and, when necessary, to cheer up those who are wronged.

After one of the most complete investigations in our nation's history, the government charges Mary Salat on three grounds: First, she The acquaintance with Booth; two, the instructions she gave to Lloyd; three, the denial of acquaintance with Payne. These are the three things that constitute Mary Sarlat's involvement in treason and murder.

They consider themselves innocent, You and I may have done the same thing, but the government insists her intentions are sinister, based largely on the testimony of John Lloyd and Louis Whiteman. So far, the best may be that these people have backtracked, and the worst It could be that they did shady things, they lied and framed people in order to clear their name.

We believe the real reason Mary Sarlat is here today is her son, John Sarlat. He invited Booth to his house, not her. He hid the gun and ammo in Lloyd's tavern, not her.

If John Salat was an accomplice, I pray that God will punish him in every way, and if his mother is convicted for lack of evidence, you will be rewarded.

Judges, please do justice to Mary Sarlat, not sacrifice our natural human rights out of revenge. Too many have fallen to defend them. )

"If our rights can't be guaranteed, then why should I work for the United States?" The combination of fictional fiction and real history, repression and injustice permeate the whole film, making people worry and block from beginning to end; The performance is very brilliant. Although it is an old-fashioned plot, the rhythm is tight and steady, and it is not dull. I think, in the same situation, would we choose human rights or national stability? ★★★★

Some are like those from Nortel who haven’t graduated yet but insist on playing Hongyan. LONG’s appearance is like someone I know, so it’s not suitable. The last scene looks very comfortable. In short, during the war, what else are you talking about? Law!

The Conspirator quotes

  • Frederick Aiken: Ma'am, all I know about you is what I read in the papers. It's not flattering.

  • Frederick Aiken: I think she's as guilty as Booth. How can I possibly defend her?

Reverdy Johnson: You assume that she's guilty, like the Commission. You don't have any proof.

Frederick Aiken: Proof or no, don't give a damn what happens to her.

Reverdy Johnson: I tell you what. If you can prove that she's guilty, you can take yourself off the case.

    Frederick Aiken: Thank you, sir.

Reverdy Johnson: You think it'll be that easy?

    Frederick Aiken: I know it.
