Director Lao Ma summed it up in a few words (referring to a criticism by Martin Sussex), the ingenious choreography, camera, sound effects, and performance made the audience completely devour. The whole plot takes place in this house, the intensive use of close-up and main perspective, and several long shots add unprecedented impact to the film! Let the fans have no breath, and let the people who eat melons die.
Film is an art that is comprehensible, and even many professionals now rudely refer to directors as storytellers. It is even less blameworthy for the melon eaters to pursue box office and ratings.
