The story told in this film is the plot of Shakespeare's play "Charles III". It has not changed much from the original book, and even many lines have used the lines in Shakespeare's original play. The only difference is that the film is set in the 1930s, perhaps the director's intention was to avoid putting too much effort into the sets and costumes.
Facts have also proved that a good script, a good director and a good actor are far more important to a movie than the sets and costumes.
This movie is not so exciting in the plot, but because the actors' performances are extremely vivid, and the language, expressions and actions are all admirable. The sinister Charlie, the desperate Queen Elizabeth, the weak and poor Ann, the Duke of Buckingham, Charlie's accomplice. . . . I won't praise them one by one :)
In addition, in line with the change of the background of the story, the costumes, props, soundtrack and scenery of the film are also very decent and beautiful, without the dullness of historical dramas.
All in all, my impression of this movie, apart from being good-looking, is that of a typical "British style": elegant, decent, reserved, and very comfortable to look at.
