No one was spared in the war - "Aftermath"

Introducing the movie "Aftermath" today.

The film title The Aftermath (2019), also known as Love, Enemy (Taiwan) / Enemy's Wife (Hong Kong).

The movie "Aftermath" is based on the novel of the same name by Rhidian Brook. The story takes place in Hamburg, Germany, where World War II just ended, and British officer Colonel Lewis Morgan came to be stationed in charge of post-war reconstruction. Lewis and his wife Rachael Morgan lived in a large German house, the original owner of the house Stephen Lubert Stephen Lubert was driven to live in the attic.

The film explores the disasters caused by war to ordinary people. Whether it is the soldiers who directly participated in the war or the civilians who tried their best to avoid the war, under the shadow of war, everyone will inevitably encounter tragedy.

Some people lose their sons, some people lose their wives, some people lose their love, and some people lose their lives. War is so cruel, it shows no mercy when it deprives others of happiness.

Tragedy like the Lewis family and the Stephen family is okay, at least they won't worry about their livelihood. The slogan of ordinary people protesting in the film is "Feed us" to eat. After all, only when you are full can you have the strength to pursue emotional appeals.

Because Lewis's task is to rebuild after the war, it is particularly important to deal with the relationship with the local German people.

The owner of the house, Stephen, is a wealthy local family. His wife's family owns a shipyard and has a wealthy family. Stephen and his daughter live here, and several servants are responsible for daily life. The house they live in is also a luxury villa, and the interior decoration is also very luxurious and artistic, showing the owner's wealth everywhere.

Lewis could have driven the Stephen family away, but Lewis insisted on keeping the Stephen family in order to carry out his work in the future.

Such a simple starting point forms the basis of the whole story.

Lewis and Rachel's son was killed by a German airstrike in World War II, which created a split between the two. Just like a mirror was punched with a crack, although it can still be used reluctantly, the crack will always remind everyone that this is no longer the original mirror.

Lewis and Rachel never publicly blamed each other, but silently blamed each other in their hearts. The two always found various reasons to separate, which further caused the relationship between the husband and wife to break up.

At the end of World War II, the Allies launched heavy air raids on major cities in Germany. Stephen's wife was also killed under such circumstances. Stephen, who never joined the Nazis, also became a direct victim of the war.

Stephen's daughter is even more disgusted by the Allied forces, and even joined the al-Shabaab, wanting to attack the Allied forces occupying their homes.

It is said that children are the crystallization of love and an important bridge to maintain a stable marriage. When the child is gone, the relationship between husband and wife is very fragile. Lewis and Rachel ostensibly want to repair their relationship, but in practice, they have been holding back.

Lewis used the pretext of carrying out a military mission, not even taking leave after the funeral of his child, and was reluctant to go home to face his wife. Rachel was even less able to lie, and her body language clearly showed her dislike of her husband.

In such a situation, the NTR at the door of the house happened naturally.

Stephen became a widower and raised his daughter alone, and he had to face allied officers who made things difficult for him.

To be sure, when Stephen suddenly attacked and kissed Rachel, it was largely out of revenge: Since you made me lose my wife, I will possess yours.

The plot in the back is logical. The lonely man and the widow are alone in a room. In the empty, lonely and cold environment, they slowly discovered the literary atmosphere of each other. One is that the architect likes to draw drawings, the other is that the pianist likes to play the piano, and the two began their honeymoon period.

It is women who know women best.

Rachel's plastic sister, Susan, quickly smelled Rachel's change.

When a person is in a state of love, the whole person's spirit will change. Susan is very keen to find the difference, and confirms her guess after deliberately testing.

From Susan's bitchy words, the audience can know that the relationship between the two women is purely based on the husbands' working relationship, and there is no real feeling at all. This also paved the way for Susan to betray Rachel in a roundabout way.

Susan told her husband about the big melon she found, and then her husband told Lewis inadvertently. The rest was left to the Lewis couple to make trouble. Susan was in charge of eating melons and watching the show.

The emotional clues in the film are handled fairly well, so I won't spoil it here.

A group of people who had a hard time finally decided to start over. As Stephen said, everything goes to zero, and zero is the end of the old life and the beginning of the new life.

No one is spared in war,

Relationships need to start from scratch.
