Seven and a half hours of film, it's just maddening. Numerous long shots and rich audiovisual language make up this immortal legend. Beratar is a master of no other. This is a movie that claims to have the longest time and the least amount of story capacity. Indeed, the story is so simple that it doesn't even resemble a story. The film is divided into twelve sections. The first half of the multi-character perspective parallel time-space non-linear narrative is awe-inspiring under the powerful image style. The cheating man and woman negotiate with the woman's husband to split the money and escape from the farm. Day after day, the obese doctor sits in front of the window of his home, smoking and drinking while peeping and recording various events in the farmhouse and the decadent, corpse-like life of the villagers. The news of the release of the two liars haunted everyone in the village like a nightmare. The long shot of the two crooks walking in the storm and the fat doctor walking clumsily and slowly alone on the road to buy wine are immersive, and the reality and the time of the movie characters are completely synchronized. There is always a storm and rain in the movie. With the excellent audio-visual language, the smell of dirt, mud, damp and decay overflows from the lens. What a unique viewing experience. And the most heart-wrenching part is undoubtedly the unreserved part of the little girl who abused the cat and poisoned the cat with rat poison, which is almost crazy challenging the bottom line of morality, but also makes people feel lonely and lost. The little girl who is often beaten by her mother is lonely and twisted. After killing the cat, she finds that all her money has been cheated by her brother, so she takes the cat's body to an abandoned church, eats rat poison and closes it Eyes, holding the dead cat, peacefully waiting for death. This passage hits the bottom of my heart directly under the long shot, which is perverted and poignant. Everyone in the tavern danced tango while waiting for the arrival of the two liars.
Returning to the traditional narrative in the second half, two liars used the girl's death to defraud the villagers of money. And arranged for the village names to work in another farm, that is, to escape from the old farm (the old system) that has long been dead. The villagers packed their bags with anticipation and embarked on the journey. In the abandoned hotel, everyone slept on the ground, and the long shot swayed in the sky, accompanied by a poetic monologue, which was melancholy and quiet. But they were not better off by leaving. They are still doing tedious, life-consuming work. In the end, they returned to the old, run-down, rotten farmstead, where they had no money and could only continue to live on. The obese doctor who had been in the hospital for more than ten days returned home and continued to peep into the outside world, and found that the farm was dead and no one went out. Suddenly, he heard the sound of a bell, the sound of the death knell. It came from the abandoned church where the little girl committed suicide, but that church had no bell at all. The doctor was terrified, as if the end of the world was coming, so he blocked the only window with the outside world with wooden boards, leaving himself in the dark.
To borrow a quote from the movie: I am puzzled why people are afraid of freedom, freedom is not scary, it is the system that is really scary.
This is a movie you can take your breath away just by watching. It shows the pure image charm in all directions, and it has too many charming places, just like real works of art, hanging on the wall, placed on the table, and emitting a dazzling light all the time.
