"Letterhead Story" was marked long ago, but I didn't understand the plot. Recently, I saw that Xunlei's recommendation was attracted by the American version of the melting pot word (beautiful picture).
For the first few minutes, I was talking about the life and growth of 13-year-old girl Jennifer. I didn't seem to see the point. It was only after about 50 minutes of the plot that I realized that this is really the melting pot of the American version. In this film, the male protagonist packaged his relationship with Jennifer as a love affair, which also convinced Jennifer.
The 48-year-old middle-aged Jennifer used the diary and letterhead she wrote when she was 13 years old in junior high school, and kept visiting clients and companions at the time, recalling the past that she could not remember step by step. Since Jennifer is the eldest of the five children, her father is busy with her career and her mother and grandmother are busy taking care of the other four children. The family is noisy and chaotic, so Jennifer is naturally ignored. I met Ms. G and Bill at the equestrian training camp in the summer vacation. One is married and the other is divorced. During the process of getting along, they gradually fell in love with them. The relationship between the three seems to have reached the level of "confidant". In the end, Jennifer fell into Bill's gentle trap and was violated.
The following character analysis (multiple stitching screenshots):
1. Bill
He is a pedophile uncle of about 40 years old. His image and behavior do not seem to be obscene. He is good at words, knows how to get along with Jennifer, and keeps digging into Jennifer's thinking, making her feel that she is mature and unique, different from others. And indirectly lead her to hate her parents. (actually brainwashing)
Bill didn't directly assault him, he first got along with Jennifer slowly, established a relationship as a teacher and a friend, so as to guide her, make her fall in love with him, make her not know that she was sexually assaulted, make her think this is love.
2. Ms. G
When I first saw Ms. G, she felt the beauty of a woman with short hair, coupled with her tall figure, which also made Jennifer admire and admire her.
Married and divorced Bill often stay together, presumably also has a story.
As for Ms. G's specific age, I don't know, and it doesn't seem to be mentioned in the film. Assuming that it is within 30, then it means that Ms. G was violated by an adult Bill when she was a teenager (Bill is estimated to be in her twenties), and she was also brainwashed and guided. Always with Bill. So Ms. G said that Jennifer was just the beginning, did she mean that Jennifer was the first underage Bill violated? Then it doesn't make sense. It's also possible that Ms. G met Bill as an adult, or that Ms. G and Bill were a real couple in the first place (to hide the fact that Ms. G married someone else).
The next rainy night, when Jennifer went to repeatedly ask Ms. G what happened back then, she also insisted on not answering. Later I realized that Ms. G turned out to be an accomplice.
3. Jennifer's parents
When something happens to a child, family factors are often the main reason. After all, as a parent, it is the responsibility of taking care of the child, but it is obvious that Jennifer's parents have not fulfilled their responsibilities as parents. Parents are busy with their own, and the father is also a master of patriarchy, which leads to the mother's obedience. The portrayal of parents in the movie is really straightforward.
And the mother didn't dare to say anything in front of Jennifer's father, she was submissive, lacking independent opinions and firm ideas, and she didn't care about her daughter Jennifer very much, and her suspicions about Bill were also exhausted.
Even if my father doesn't care, I think my mother or grandma can follow Jennifer and investigate. Or maybe they didn't really take it to heart. As long as the snack is long, it will not cause this unbearable past.
4. Jennifer
I think the most important thing is the female protagonist Jennifer's thoughts and attitude towards this past event. Of course, it is also somewhat limited by her memory, and the diary she wrote at the age of 13 is also false and whitewashed.
When she wanted to reminisce about the past, it originated from Jennifer's previous diary letterhead found by her mother, and she seemed to trace the origin with a curiosity and a clear idea, and in her recollection, she claimed that Bill was her first boyfriend.
Jennifer's mother asked her why she wanted to recall this unbearable past. Jennifer said that I was concerned, maybe it was love, and I wanted others to think that I was different.
At first, she repeatedly said that she was not a victim, but as she continued to learn about the past, she thought she was violated, otherwise she would not confront old Bill in the end, and said that she hated every minute of that year , apparently, the damage came a little too late.
Personally, I think middle-aged Jennifer felt that she had been violated when she gradually recalled this past event, but because she was 13 years old and could not tell whether it was love or violation, the diary at that time was partially beautified and fictitious, resulting in Middle-aged Jennifer wasn't quite sure which part of the whole thing was true and which part was false.
Perhaps, the director was willing to film this unbearable past of his childhood, not to let the society know who the person who violated her was, but to let himself face this past, and to arouse everyone's attention to children's sex education and children's personal safety protection of.
