"Airplane Snake": a standard Hollywood play

There is a popular saying in Hollywood screenwriter circles: Don’t give anyone any reason not to read your script. This sentence is also used in movies. Don't give the audience any reason not to watch your movie. In this commercial disaster film, every detail has been carefully depicted.

In the past, the screening sequence of old movies was first to be marked by the factory, and then the list of screenwriters and directors. Later, in order to prevent the audience from falling asleep at the beginning of the film, the list of actors and staff was placed after the end of the film, and only the beginning was retained. The main creator list, and behind these main creator lists, began to spread the emotional picture.

"Flight Snakes" does that. It started with an aerial shot of the beach, surfing, playing in the water, basking in the sun, and then a guy on a motorcycle riding a motorcycle (hehe). After the subtitles were over, we immediately gave us a murder case, and neatly introduced the appearance of bad and good people. The boy on the motorcycle who witnessed the murder became the target of the gang, so he met FBI agents...So a contest between justice and evil kicked off.

I paid attention to the time. Until I boarded the plane, the film was running for exactly 10 minutes. In these ten minutes, the characters, main conflicts and foreshadowing were explained. This is the "build" part of the Hollywood standard data.

As I looked back, I wondered, these Hollywood screenwriters are not easy enough, the themes have been written clean, what should I do if I don’t have to write, let’s talk! The screenwriting process I imagined is like this:

One day, the two buddies in the screenwriting team had a meal together, and they talked about the movie when they were bored. The box office of the latest "World Trade Center" went viral, from the World Trade Center to 911, and from 911 to 911. Airplanes, and then I counted the disaster films about airplanes that have been filmed in recent years, and then I wondered: "How about we also make an airplane disaster film?" The insider said, "Okay! But what are you doing?" "Prison in the Air", "Red Eye Flight", "Crisis in the Air" plus the two 9/11 movies "Flight 93" and "World Trade Center" now can be written by others. This is not true. Good job! No, the water heater at home was broken in the first two days, and I couldn’t find anyone to fix it. My wife wants to divorce me, so I’ll fuck!”

At this time, the previous buddy inadvertently complained: "snakes on a plane! (American slang, meaning: shit happens)"

"What did you say?"

"Nothing, just complain."

"Hey! Why don't we take this shot? Into a movie?"

"The water heater is broken? Wife divorced?"

"No, snakes on a plane! Get the snake on a plane!"

"Oh, that's a good idea!"

So, the story of a plane and a snake is like this born.

Coming back to the film, if you remove the scene at the beginning of the beach, this is a standard "triune" movie: within one day, one main line, one scene. Both the human and the snake are on the same plane, and all the character backgrounds and story clues are unfolded on the plane. In the early years, many people had developed resistance to this kind of British drama structure. Just like our literati once opposed the "eight-part essay", they believed that this kind of framework restricted creation and should be completely overturned. As a result, now The authors of singularly subvert the tradition while clinging to the traditional drama model.

Hollywood movies have an ultimate principle, that is, you can do everything for the box office, so there is the first couple of men and women who want to have sex in the bathroom of the airplane, with the scene of the huge breast being bitten by a snake, and the time to pee. Unlucky buddies who accidentally got "oral sex" by snakes-these are all commercial elements, and they are all the highlights! As a result, for these points of view, a good PG13 film was originally rated as R. Personally, I think it's a bit unworthy to be downgraded just for a low-level pornographic joke.

Let's talk about echoing from the beginning to the end. The biggest echo in the film is the fat man who loves to play PSP, a trivial character. At the beginning of the film, this buddy kept playing with a PSP. The seemingly inadvertent small details really played a decisive role in the end. Both pilots were killed by snakes and no one knew how to fly planes. This quasi-professional master trained by PS2 stepped forward and played the real plane like a game, and finally turned the tide. I have always suspected that this segment is advertising for PS company, although it also contains the inspirational element of "small people can do big things", but no matter how you think the advertising traces are serious, it is estimated that PS company has invested money.

Let's talk about CG. Before I talk about CG, let me explain it. I didn't know until I watched this movie, or to be precise, when I watched the ending subtitles of this movie. It turns out that the CG that people have been clamoring for in recent years is: Computer Graphic! You see, I have learned a word again, and I can go around the world and show off with people again!

Going back to CG, I read the tidbits and reported that hundreds of real snakes were used, but some of the snakes that need to be performed were still made of CG. It may be that the snake's texture is too clear, but it looks a little bit Fake. If you look closely, you can tell which ones are real snakes and which ones are made by CG. I think all the close-up shots of snakes are done. Otherwise, let you go around the world and spend ten years training. Those snakes won't swing their bodies according to the director's intention-that's called acting! do you know! Snakes also have their own emotions.

Finally talk about regret.

That Asian guy who practiced Taekwondo was useless in the end. I mean he didn’t show his kung fu. It really took so much space (at least 3 scenes and 10 dialogues) to explain the origin of this guy, and finally he carried it on his back. A girl passed through the group of snakes and it was over. I guess there is an explanation at the back of the script, and it was shot during filming, but it was taken off in the later editing, which may affect the rhythm, and it seems too pretending to be placed in the film.

Speaking of this, I think of a domestic air disaster film a few years ago, called "Emergency Landing", in which there was an old man in white clothes, white pants and white beard who practiced Tai Chi. He gently rolled a newspaper with a little bit of a newspaper. (Please forgive me) My wording, because it was so stupid), I flew back to my seat. This segment is seriously inconsistent with the documentary style of the entire film, but it was eventually retained, and it looked particularly stupid in the film (please forgive my wording again)!

In addition to documentary films, Hollywood disaster films will have some inspirational elements in them. From the early "Flying Wings" to the current "Airplane Snake", it is a person who knows nothing about flying airplanes and finally settles the matter. To borrow the method of summarizing the central idea in the elementary school textbook, it is: if there is a will, it will be done. In the end, the bad guys were brought to justice, and the good guys found their wives or something.

Hey, do you think these Hollywood screenwriters have ever read our elementary school Chinese textbooks? Otherwise, how could they be so familiar with the "start, inherit, transfer, and union" in our text?
