A light-hearted story telling a lifelong regret

The ending looks like a happy ending, but after so many years, Brian still regards passersby as his Ariel, and Ariel always wears the ring on his ring finger. Only those who have experienced it know that this will probably be a lifetime regret. Had a similar emotional experience and ended up for a similar reason. But unlike in the story, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years passed. . . . Slowly, I stopped looking at everyone like her, I stopped thinking about people when I saw something related, I stopped dreaming at night, and occasionally I thought it was just an old friend who lived in the memory of the past. . Long-term repression, no matter how strong the emotion, can subside over time. This is probably the survival instinct of human physiological mechanism. Later, I was no longer in pain, but I still felt a pity sometimes, not or no longer because I lost "she", but because I had lost the ability to perceive "a certain precious emotion" itself. That's the price.

"Many years ago, I seemed to have had a very precious and sweet relationship, but what kind of feeling was that? Who was that person? I can't remember at all."
