Suicide itself is a choice of life, but it is not destined to be inevitable. Dominic's suicide in the movie was also his own choice, not because of the outside world.
His wealthy life, his family's social status, and his own excellence could not bring anything to his life, or even affect his heart at all. Life is free, free to leave at any time.
Like all ordinary people, Dominic's heart was divided, filled with doubts, with anxiety and dissatisfaction. "Why do I react to men?" "I obviously don't like electronic music, please turn it off!" She doesn't actually exist, and Dominic falls in love with her and puts her inside the wall. And because of her non-existence, she occupies Dominica's heart. She was able to control a part of Dominic, even enabling him to overcome some difficulties. It's just that the girl in the depths of his heart is not real, and she will self-mutilate or even commit suicide at any time, and will disappear. It was the Phantom that gave Dominic a temporary turnaround.
It doesn't make him leave his space and talk to the girl inside, but he rejects everything else.
His friends, including the base friend, gave him some illusory illusions, and his family gave him empty love. A scene in the movie shows his relationship with his mother. His mother showed up to Dominic's room in only underwear and stockings, urging him as the family changed clothes at home before attending a social event.
