"The Edge of Heaven" and "Head-On" are two very different films. The former has many characters, complex stories, and multiple parallels, involving religion, politics, family affection, cultural affiliation, homosexuality, etc., while the latter mainly focuses on There are only two characters, a linear narrative, and a line to the end. However, the two have the greatest and most important thing in common, and that is their theme: only love is worth believing in.
The film language of "The Edge of Heaven", I can't express it clearly in a few words. But for a complicated story, the director uses clean, comfortable shots and just-right editing to tell the story in a succinct manner. In this one and a half hour, you won't feel ignorant or lacklustre. Compared with Chinese directors who can only use narration to narrate, I don't know how clever. I think that the director's task or talent should be to convert words into pictures and show them, otherwise it would be incompetent or lazy. There are many scenes where the characters miss each other, just like many streams, because a source slowly converges, but inadvertently separates. In the end, because of love, those who have passed by are still gathered and merged into the ordinary and warm. The river of life flows to a beautiful future. There is a long shot of nearly 5 minutes at the end of the film, introducing the cast and crew, the male protagonist, with his back to the camera, sitting on the beach, looking at the sea in the distance, with a boat nearby, the father is fishing, this is paradise the edge, in his heart.
