The film doesn't show too much detail about real events, and it doesn't have too much gore, and it seems to explore what turns an introverted, delicate boy into a sexually deranged serial killer.
But without prior knowledge of Jeffrey's life, it's hard to see the meaning behind the film. It was such a child who fell in love with a straight man and felt that he was going to be abandoned. Killing him would keep him by his side forever, scared, trembling, drinking and crying at night.
But it's too much for him to leave more in the future, so just kill them. Of course, the last one didn't let him have the heart to do it. In the real case, it was this one that put him in prison. And the end of the film is just a light touch on Dahmer's finale.
The tone of the whole film is dark, and the narrative is a bit confusing. It seems to be eager to get success and to tell all about Dahmer's short murderous life, but it also leads to insufficient depth, and the director seems to be powerless. It can be said that JR's acting skills propped up this film. The hysterical despair and gloomy eyes just showed Dahmer's inner struggle and pain.
It's still a dull film, maybe there's a lot of stories like this, but one actor is enough, and we're enough to watch it, too much thinking doesn't change anything, neither does anger or sympathy What will change.
