Keanu Reeves' directorial debut is a bit of a disappointment

3 stars purely for Keanu Reeves' efforts as a director. It may be because of the cultural differences between China and the West. We are used to seeing too many beautifully designed martial arts moves, but we are accustomed to more practical but not fancy moves such as fighting in actual combat. And there is no deep connection with what Tai Chi expresses, and I feel that there is something less relevant.

The villain played by Keanu Reeves is always cool and cold. . . But the main actor Chen Hu, as a martial artist, let him play the leading role, and his expressions and actions other than fighting seemed a bit blunt. But the martial arts part is still very serious and qualified. It's just two concepts that we are used to.

The story is far-fetched, which is the biggest flaw.

Keanu Reeves is still so cool and handsome, and Chen Hu can also play, but the story of the Shaw model is really outdated.

The main guy doesn’t think it’s Keanu's good friend, I will definitely kill him...Keanu is still so cool, I hope this is not his last cool.

Man of Tai Chi quotes

  • Female Announcer: A fine line separates a fighter from a warrior. One is motivated by reason, the other, by purpose.

  • Master Yang: You must meditate.

    'Tiger' Chen Lin Hu: Why?

Master Yang: To clear your mind, guide your Chi and gain control.

'Tiger' Chen Lin Hu: I have control.

Master Yang: No, you have power not control.

'Tiger' Chen Lin Hu: Power is control.

Master Yang: That is an illusion.

'Tiger' Chen Lin Hu: It is not an illusion... it's reality. I live in it, you don't. What I learn here I can't use out there.

Master Yang: How can you use what you have not yet learned? Only when you've dispelled these illusions, will you find your way again.
