Deconstructing Woody A.

Every artistic creation conveys the truth about its creator. At this point Woody is not afraid to present the world what he really is and I truly admire his courage and his brilliance. In this film, he expresses his frustration about life, about himself. The protagonist was a serial wife-cheater who appeared out of touch most of the time, especially when other people were in their moment of emotional outburst. The man just can not change who he is and he has to live with it everyday with such strong self -loathing. It speaks out the truth: if one does not even love oneself, he/she surely cannot love others, at least not in a proper way.
Throughout this film, nobody was happy. After a series of fragmented and chronologically confusing events, our protagonist finally made peace with this so-called life and found his salvation in art. After all, what can you do about life but to live it.

"It's like Vegas. Sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down, but in the end the house always wins. Doesn't mean you didn't have fun."

The genius of Woody is he sees the negativity, yet instead of shoving the hard truth into people's faces, he offers the world the lens of humor and imagination, through which the negativity is accessible and easy to chew on, and most importantly, substantial. The magical potion distilled from his mental storage is just perfect for a cheerful pessimist like me. It serves like a temporary antidote whose effect lasts for the ample duration of this whole movie.
