Civilization is like a shooting star, short and gorgeous

Fullmetal alchemists are everywhere revealing their desire for peace and their reflection on war. After the Second World War, Japan is still the main war faction holding real power. Whether it is self-protection or invasion, it is just a microcosm of the development of human society. It is a country, and it is a country that is violated. If the time and space are zoomed in again, this may also be a microcosm of the universe, if the universe is full of human beings.

Of course, I'm not anti-human either. The achievements of human beings are also brilliant and splendid, and there are many beautiful things in human society. But as the equivalent exchange emphasized by Fullmetal Alchemist, this kind of beauty and splendor has paid a corresponding price, and usually the price paid is greater than the value obtained.

Human beings have the idea that all things are equal and that all things are dogs, and it is also full of the idea that everyone is above everyone. Natural selection, survival of the fittest, human beings at the top of the earth's biological pyramid, the civilization developed by itself is at the expense of all things on the earth. The 4.6 billion years of the earth and the 13.7 billion years of the universe may end in the development of countless civilizations in less than 10 million years. Civilization is like a shooting star, short and gorgeous.

Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa quotes

  • Alphonse Heiderich: We're real, Edward. We're not just part of your dreams like you thought. I care and I make mistakes. I may not live much longer but I'll still be here. Just don't forget me.

  • [last lines]

Alphonse Elric: Another great war is sure to start. That could be something that's unavoidable, huh? I wonder if it's something we should be getting involved with.

Edward Elric: We can no longer go on thinking this world has nothing to do with ourselves. This is our world. There's no difference. This is where we live.
