old school west

Very old-fashioned plot, justice and evil, prodigal son, lone hero, can't bear it, no need to bear it anymore, religious influence, the awesome male protagonist and his opponent sympathize with each other, and shoot in a bar. There is also a woman who has been in love with the male lead married to a mediocre man.
This kind of movie is like potato chips, like cheap alcohol and cheap cigarettes. It's so ordinary, you don't even need to watch it to know the ending, but after watching it, it still feels so familiar, a kind of indescribable like meeting an old friend after a long time. It's like Hong Kong's previous gangster films, but Hong Kong's gangster films can never get that feeling back. And Korea's too rough feeling makes people feel a little too much, too realistic may not have that kind of taste.
Old-school West Old-school elegance, declining West, declining elegance. The wild west, the unrestrainedness of pleasure and hatred, the developed west, the glitz of high technology.

  • John Henry Clayton: [to Mary-Alice] The thought of coming back to you... was the only thing that got me through that damn war. And when it was over, I swear to you on my life, I tried coming home. I swore I was done with killing. She just wasn't done with me.

  • James McCurdy: [writing a check to buy her dead husband's land] I'm sorry for your loss.

Mrs. Chadwick: [tearfully] No, you ain't. Eventually... someone's gonna have the nerve to stand up to you. And when that day comes, I want to be here to spit on your grave.

James McCurdy: Well, ma'am, feel free to do so. Provided you can find your way to the front of the line.
