TH is a businessman under enormous pressure, his boss/supervisor doesn't like him, his wife (or he wouldn't be an ex-wife and force him to sell his house for compensation) doesn't like him either, his father fired him as soon as he called The choice of the workers to complain about him. The only person in TH's life who can understand him and care about him is his daughter who was awarded to the early stage after his divorce.

He couldn't accompany such a daughter, because he didn't like his boss/boss, so he sent him to Saudi Arabia to follow a project that seemed extremely unreliable.

He wants to connect with everyone in a strange world, and everyone he wants to ask where the other is from. But trying never gave him a real resonance and connection, as he did in America. He questioned himself, questioned his decisions, questioned what the mass on his body was. These were pressing on his heart like a stone. In addition to flashing back all the time, he often couldn't wake up on time from his sleep.

TH is neither in control of himself nor in his life, out of control. Just like his eyes staring into this strange desert, sometimes confused, sometimes tired, sometimes escaping.

The project was the same as his hunch, everything was out of control, and the pressure from the company was increasing. He meets the same out-of-control driver, an avid Danish consultant, in an unfamiliar world. But none of this made his heart flutter, until he met the doctor.

His disease was diagnosed, surgery was performed, and his project progressed, although it failed in the end. There is nothing in the world, but there is a new dynamic in his life.

This story tells us that meeting the right person in life is the most important thing that affects the quality of life the most.

In fact, the novelty of the story is there: the protagonist is placed under different cultural conflicts and business models, and the camera captures the geographical area without any imaginary self-indulgence and random speculation, the story is simple and straight Sex, will pay more attention to the embarrassment and "embarrassment" that "Alan" encountered here. It's just that its writing is always vulgar, serving the discussion of the existential crisis of middle-aged men, which is somewhat anticlimactic. The appearance of Ben Whishaw in it is quite funny, I almost didn't recognize it~

Mid-life crisis movies are my favorites; when the character of my father fell into a mid-life crisis, there are many stories to tell; Middle Eastern style, very good; the implication is better than the movie itself, and incidentally satirizes China Businessmen too hahaha.

A Hologram for the King quotes

  • [first lines]

Alan: [mimicking The Talking Heads in his music video TV commercial] You may find yourself living in your garden shack. And you may find yourself not at home in your home. And you may find yourself looking for your large automobile. And you may find yourself without a beautiful house. Without a beautiful wife. And you may ask yourself "Well, how did I get here?"

Alan: [riding a roller coaster for the chorus] Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.

  • Alan: [in an email] Dear Dr. Hakem. I hope this message finds you well. Your skill made quick work of that cyst. So I want to thank you again. I've been feeling increasingly energized since the operation and I've already been able to transfer that energy to others successfully. The only catch is now I don't have anything to blame my problems on. That little growth explained everything, and now it's gone. I am sincerely grateful, though, I think. Alan Clay.

Zahra: [her response] Dear Mr. Clay, even though it went a little harder than I expected, it was a simple extraction. Usually the discovery that you're not dying of a malignant tumor leaves most people with their spirits high. But you are not most people, are you? Dr. Zahra Hakem.

Alan: Dear Dr. Hakem, actually, my spirits are very high indeed, maybe too high. I'm feeling a little dizzy. The cause is mysterious. But I have felt a strange new lump in my back. I'm no doctor, but it feels like a rubber glove. Is there a chance you left one? Sometimes people leave things like gloves with someone they like in hopes their retrieval will provide an excuse to see that someone again. Yours, Alan.

Zahra: Dear Alan, I actually might have left something. I'm thinking a sponge? Or maybe part of a snack I ate during the surgery. I think I need to see you again. Perhaps out of the hospital? We don't want to worry your insurers. Zahra.
