Watching Stephen Chow when I was young was a complete comedy, just having fun. Now that I am a father, I look back to appreciate it, but I have more insights. Xing Ye's films have never been pure comedies. Comedy is only a representational form. Most of Xingye's movie characters are stories of little people's struggles, with self-mockery in the grass, making people feel more and more sad after they are happy. People with more experience will find it very resonant after reading it, because too much helplessness in reality will cause people to feel a sense of substitution. People have no dreams, what is the difference between them and salted fish! This is also the motivation and self-encouragement of the grass-roots class to strive for progress!
Hope to enjoy it again in a few years and have more experience.
There are so many filmmakers in Hong Kong. Only Stephen Chow would make me have the urge to go to the cinema!
