The plot is empty and lacks a sense of reality

"Out of the World" is about the people and events that a boy born on Mars and raised to 16 years old comes to Earth. If the story could be expanded into one or two seasons, with around 12 episodes per season, it might work well. But as a movie, it is neither long nor short. What the audience sees is an old-fashioned story that happened to an innocent child, and the sci-fi setting of the film will always make people feel difficult to substitute.
Asa Butterfield ("Miss Pei's Magic Castle") is very engaged, but even with the two superb actors Gary Oldman and Carla Gugino to help, it is difficult to make up for the huge flaw in the plot. The story is very old, the main conflict is based on a pair of hapless young lovers and a group of government officials who want to separate them with good intentions, and the overall plot seems hollow.
Butterfield plays Gardner Elliot, a 16-year-old boy born on Mars whose mother (Janet Montegori) is an astronaut. When Nathaniel Shepherd (Gary Oldman), a rich man who loves space, opened up a Martian immigration base, the boy's mother just gave birth to him on Mars and died because of it. After that, the boy stayed on Mars and grew up.
Gardner has been trying to connect with people on Earth, and finally found a netizen on Earth - a young girl named Tulsa (Brittany Robertson). At this time, the astronaut Kendra Wyndham (Carla Gugino), who is taking care of the boy, proposes to take him to Earth. The founder of the Mars base, Nathaniel, agreed, but he insisted that Gardner keep his identity secret, that the public could not know his identity, and arranged for a doctor to give him a detailed and thorough examination in case he did not adapt to gravity after he arrived on Earth. question.
In a hurry to see netizens he had never met, Gardner sneaked out of the place where NASA had placed him to find Tulsa, who had never believed that he was from Mars. Soon, Nathaniel and Kendra showed up with the army and scientists, and they wanted to take Gardner back, but Gardner and Tulsa escaped again and went to the Midwest to enjoy the scenery, where their relationship deepened, It was an experience Gardner had never felt before.

As I said at the beginning, Alain Lobo's script setting is quite interesting. If it can be written more deeply and made into a series, or it is simpler, highlight love, choose one of these two directions. All are great works. Even the simplest technological differences between Earth and Mars, or the process of raising children in aliens, these can support a good work if they are written well, and there is no need to catch two children (one of the actors is actual age). I'm 26 years old) to do a play where I've come a long way to love you.

ASA looks so good~, ASA is so tall~, ASA is so thin~ ASA is still as young as a minor in bed scenes. Let me teach the director to upper body~, ASA has not made any progress after acting for so many years...

The Space Between Us quotes

  • [last lines]

Gardner Elliot: [narrating] I wanted to go to Earth. Not just to visit, but to live there. Turns out people from Earth wanted exactly the same thing as people from Mars. And I should know, because I'm pretty sure I'm the only one. So far. I don't know which is better, but here is what I do know. It's good to be home.

  • Gardner Elliot: Just because something sounds crazy, doesn't mean it's not true.
