This version of Wuthering Heights is a version with a better reputation. Ralph Fiennes and Juliet Binoche started their partners in this film. It is no wonder that the cooperation in the later "The English Patient" brought Sophisticated sense of tacit understanding. The rhythm of the whole story is relatively even, with the retro soundtrack and voice line, there is a feeling of returning to the 16th century when the novel was set. Love and hate are unavoidable topics in this film. Because of love and hatred, grudges are difficult. The story is full of tragedy, but also with hope. People who love each other do not have the courage to break through the barriers of fame and fortune, and do not have the courage to return to their original intentions, but they still let their feelings entangle and become a tragedy. Unfortunately, this tragedy has not ended. The exclusiveness and selfishness of love has been negatively turned into endless revenge by Heathcliff under such circumstances. He tortured his beloved flesh and blood, and in fact tortured his own heart. The pure Katherine is the embodiment of love. She uses her kindness and love to eliminate the boundaries of hatred and make Heathcliff's cold blood extremely dirty. Heathcliff's love is actually distorted, and this distorted value destroys his beliefs and kindness to the world. The film and the book actually underscore the power of religion to be pervasive, even as Heathcliff is so ruthless, he is forgiven and redeemed, reuniting with Cathy in eternity. Difficult grievances actually reflect the dark side of people's hearts. Only love and faith can bring salvation and liberation, so all the people here are idealized and lucky in reality. They have been redeemed and found new ones. The direction of the world can be regarded as an enlightenment for all beings who have lost their way in the world

Wuthering Heights quotes

  • Cathy Linton: My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods: time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees. My love for Heathcliff is the eternal rock beneath: a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I AM Heathcliff!

  • Cathy Linton: If I've done wrong I'm dying for it.
