"We will never be separated again, it's a deal"
This is the last sentence of the film, from Alec's mouth, and it is also the most moving point in the whole film. Maurice and Clive went through thousands of turns and finally couldn't be together. Fortunately, Maurice finally met Alec. So happy for Maurice and Alec, two people in love who ignore everything on the outside and listen only to the truest voice inside. A scene like this is always moving.
The two of them violated the taboos of the times. Maybe they will suffer from other people's pointing and pointing all the time in the future. .
At the same time, I feel very distressed for Clive, because he can only suppress his own nature to live a life, and this kind of pain is pressured by the times. At the same time, because of his own cowardice, he does not have the courage of Maurice and Alec to resist that era. Happiness is What you need to fight for yourself requires a price. If you back down, if you are afraid of taking responsibility, you can only hide in the closet.
And those who dare to come out of the closet are under enormous psychological pressure and external pressure, and every step is extremely difficult. The progress of the times and the enlightenment of ideas require these brave pioneers.
The original author, EM Forster, started writing in 1913 and completed the first draft the following year, but due to the pressure of the times, the novel was not published until after his death. This is very similar to Clive in that they cannot be themselves because of the times. Maybe the author knew before writing that he couldn't publish it, but he couldn't restrain his urge to express it, so even if he couldn't publish it, he still had to finish the novel.
Thank you Forster for leaving us such a heart-touching work, let us cry and laugh, and read the novel, as if we have spent our whole life with the characters in the book.
May we all be brave and find where our hearts belong.
