Eagle Eddie

The film details the inspiring and true story of Michael Edwards, the most famous ski jumper in British history, known as "Eddie the Eagle". A person who is not very talented, dreams of becoming an alpine skier, stubbornly insists on his dream of representing the United Kingdom in the Olympic Games, even if he encounters repeated failures, falls, and makes jokes, he still does not change his original intention and will never change his mind. I gave up, and finally my dream came true. I successfully participated in the Olympic Games (although the results were at the bottom), and practiced the Olympic spirit: the emphasis is on participation. It is also the best commentary on "where there is a will, things will come true".

The inspirational story of "Eagle Eddie" moves people not only by his never-say-die spirit and courage, but also by admonishing people not to squander their talents.

I remember that there was a racing horse in Japan, Chunli, who lost many races and races again and again, but was sought after by the Japanese people and regarded as an idol because of its never-say-die spirit.

For those who have encountered many difficulties in life, Saima Chunli or "Eagle Eddie" is their light of hope.

Yes, people can be hurt, but they cannot be defeated.

I especially like what the Finnish champion said to Eddie: You and I are like 1 o'clock and 11 o'clock, very close, but very far away [Oh my god, that’s great!

Eddie the Eagle quotes

  • Matti Nykänen: You and I... You and I are like one o'clock and eleven o'clock. You see, we are closer to each other than to others. Winning, losing, all that stuff is for the little people. Men like us, we jump to free our souls. We are the only two jumpers with a chance to make history today. If we do less than our best with the whole world watching, it will kill us inside. For all time.

    Eddie Edwards: Good luck, Matti.

  • Official Speaker: [At the Closing Ceremony of the Calgary Olympics] You have broken world records. You have established many of your own personal bests and some of you have even soared like an eagle.
