Post-Episode 7 Analysis: When You're Old and Your Hair Is Grey

I watched quite a lot of people in this episode, so I decided to write a simple article, hoping to help those who sprayed change their minds.

Let me talk about my personal feelings first. After watching the seventh episode, I really feel a lot, because the elderly at home have more or less similar situations and are close relatives. So in the end, I saw Ruth and Alan hugging each other...... It was really uncomfortable, moved and full of admiration.

This episode actually has two purposes: first, to supplement the personal image of the grandmother, and to use a "mother", "old and weak" perspective to improve the many holes dug in front; second, to reflect the uniqueness of the fourth sister- An "unconscious evil".

The masters have written in great detail about the completion of the plot: why ruth always jumps into and out of the dialogue in the front; the dog's problem; the priest's problem and the cause of death and the "true murderer"; the situation of the voice of God; Interpersonal relationships... But what I find most interesting here is actually the mechanism by which ruth grasps the reality of time and space: chess pieces.

In this episode, ruth gave many close-ups of the handrails of the stairs when and after going down the stairs. What do the handrails of the stairs look like? Does it look like a soldier's pawn in chess? In fact, I think the meaning I want to express here is very simple: there are two sets of reminder mechanisms - ruth is immersed in the past, discovering chess pieces, and connecting with reality. And ruth's memories and ruth's past are inextricably linked to this house. Every independent space in this home and this house is a reminder mechanism to activate ruth's "morbid memories". (Although she also wandered in the hospital)

And when it comes to chess pieces, I have to mention the fourth sister here. The ivory chess pieces did work very well at first, but after Ruth and Simei sat at a dining table together to meet and talk, this mechanism began to fail (ruth did not immediately follow the reality after holding the chess piece in the light). And in this episode, the fourth sister is unprecedentedly eloquent.

Why is this happening? Remember the black priest's definition of the voice of God? Here is a small guess: Simei is an amplifying medium, and the objects he amplifies are noises other than the "Voice of God".

Let's take a look at what Simei has done in these episodes, or what everyone thinks of him: Dennis paid too much attention to Simei for various reasons until he was shot and killed his colleague. During this period, he also had the illusion of Simei "breaking out of prison". ; the same roommate quickly became terminally ill; the male senior in the prison was frightened; after Molly told the male protagonist that she was close to the fourth sister, it seemed that the pain of the whole town was magnified; But the family went from quarreling, to action, to death; after the fourth sister came into contact with Ruth, Ruth's mental state became more and more chaotic.

We can see that Simei's murders are basically unscrupulous, but we can't judge whether Simei's murder is conscious or unconscious. Through the seventh episode, I personally think that Simei's harm is unconscious, but he may be the first "conscious harm" to Ruth. Simei's principle of action is like finding water: make sure there are unpleasant memories here, I read, I feel, I know. It was enough to come here, but due to physical reasons, this "noise" was gradually amplified, and as a result, people were killed.

And here, when the fourth sister met Alan, she questioned him why he didn't save him back then, obviously with hatred. The fourth sister naturally knows her megaphone physique, so the way to retaliate is very simple, naturally it is to harm Ruth. For alan, what is the source of unhappiness or suffering? The answer is ruth, the person he loves the most and is the most difficult to let go of. Whether it is physical condition or interpersonal relationship, while ruth gives Alan love and comfort, he is also the object of most worry and pain. This can be perfectly demonstrated from the unexpected situation he encountered during his speech.

Therefore, the target of Fourth Sister's revenge must be Ruth. However, we found that Ruth was able to deal with Simei even when he was in a state of confusion and extreme fear and weakness: follow his memories to free Simei, let his grandson get away, hide pills, deal again, and recall the location of bullets. I think the fourth sister must have exacerbated her murmur after coming into contact with ruth - Alzheimer's disease. But the fourth sister should not have expected it, and Ruth made full use of this.

Why? It's very simple. Ruth lives like this every day. She has long been used to this chaotic time and space.

But this is not enough, there are two points: first, the conversation and game with the grandson gave her the courage to fight against the fourth sister; second, the mechanism. The pawn reminded her to recognize reality and avoid getting lost. And this house, this mechanism of triggering memories, is to tell Ruth who you are and where the answers you are looking for are.

The answer is in your memory, if you think about it, where do you think about it? room to tell you. How do I get back to reality? Pawn to tell you.

It's a pity that Ruth still lost the torment of the years and the pain itself, and accidentally injured Alan.

The final scene is incomparably moving and cruel, with Ruth dressed up and embracing his guardian alan under the rising sun. Bathed in sunlight are two ivory chess pieces, one falling and the other standing (this is also a symbol of the fit of the two mechanisms).

Here's another small guess, Ruth should have no lunch box or be attacked by the fourth sister again. Moreover, she is likely to be the main output to send the fourth sister on the road.

Above, virgin review.

Indeed, it would be much better if it were collected in episode 9. An audience who has to understand the answer will be pissed off watching this kind of drama that is plausible in the end.

I may not be able to get religious horror, and it is too early to reveal the secret. But the overall atmosphere is good, plus the appearance of the fourth sister will watch the second season.
