There is no doubt that Bong Joon-ho is a movie genius. In contrast, Kim Kidd can only be regarded as an excellent movie craftsman. Others will compare Bong Joon Ho and Park Chan Wook together. I have also seen all of Park Chan-wook's works, all revealing a strong elite temperament, the story is more extreme, and it is more wanton to challenge the audience's tolerance. And Bong Junhao prefers to subtly resolve contradictions and pay attention to ordinary and nasty little people. His movies are more like movies, and the performances of mirrors and actors are all superb.
2009 was a good year, and both Bong Joon Ho and Park Chan Wook released new works. I just saw Bong Joon-ho's "Mother". Park Chan-wook's "Bat" has not yet flown. I can't say who is better than who. As far as "Mother" is concerned, it is still regarded as a genius work by Bong Joon-ho, but unfortunately it does not surpass "Memories of Murder". Perhaps Feng Junhao will never make a movie better than "Memories of Murder" in his life. "Mother" can be regarded as Bong Joon-ho's second work. Work No. 3 is the debut work "The Kidnapping of the Dog in Front", work No. 4 is "Monster".
At present, Korean movies are in a desolate scene. When "Mother" is released, there is no doubt that it is aimed at the best Korean movie of the year. The "Kim's Drifting Story" I watched a few days ago is of high quality and is a rare Korean film masterpiece, but it is still a bit worse than "Mother". The story of "Mother" has the shadow of "Memories of Murder". It is also a small character from the countryside, the stupid policeman, and the three educators. The black humor is much less. The whole story is not only smooth and exciting, but also restrained and deep, which makes people feel bored after reading it. Take a breath, you have to take a few breaths hard to get over.
Feng Junhao's works always show dissatisfaction with the state apparatus. This is what I admire the most. The police in "Memories of Murder" are incompetent and despicable, and the family in "Monster" mainly wants to escape the government's investigation. Both films have a turbulent social background. The protagonist does not directly participate in political movements, but suffers from it. The social background of "Mother" is relatively dilute. The police are still in Bong Junhao's style. They convicted their son with just a golf ball. The scene of hitting the Apple was well filmed. It was a rare black humorous clip that reminded me of the second policeman who kicked people with shoe covers in "Reminiscences of Murder".
The mother is played by Kim Hye-ja, a particularly famous Korean actress. The Chinese who love to watch Korean dramas are no strangers to her. It is said that in order to let her play the role of mother, Feng Junhao visited the thatched cottage three times and said a truckload of good things. The old mother can indeed act. At the beginning of the film, she is dancing in the wilderness, and the feeling will come out immediately. The look in her son's eyes clearly revealed a kind of paranoia. Only such a good actor can support this movie. Yuan Bin's performance owes some heat, and I can see his efforts, but it is a pity that he is blocked by his mother's shining performance.
