I especially agree with a friend who said that the film "quietly" expresses everything it wants to express.

Quietly, the word is particularly good. The same goes for Ang Lee's "Diet Men and Women" and "Brokeback Mountain." It is a testament to the most precious qualities an artist possesses, independence and sincerity. He faces the film work, not the consumer market; he looks with reverence, not arrogance; he has time, not a timeline.

Every morning we look forward to the end of grief, even if someone just died that morning. But sadness will never end, and those who won't be sad don't deserve to live. It is in this constant denial that real hope emerges, not opium, not placebo. It appeared suddenly and plunged vertically into life, with no way to even pinpoint its source. Just like the sound of those violins, it comes from eternity and also from the heart. In this way, we always look forward to the end of sadness, as always in the darkest hour of the night, looking forward to the sudden appearance of the sun.

Musician: Open your mouth so we can hear you. I can't follow you. You're not listening. You're going too fast. Let's start over with the first notes of the song. Stop! The Master has signalled. The Master would speak. Speak, Master.

Marin Marais: Each note should end dying.
