teenage growth

The French Algerian Revolution of 1962 forced France to recognize its independence. During the suppression of the revolution, the French lost tens of thousands of soldiers, and many of the French who were forced to leave Algeria. This is the political context of the story.

The story is a triangle of three men and one woman, a four-cornered love. As for some people who emphasize that this is a same-sex movie, I personally disagree. What the film wants to express is much more complex and rich.

The ending is also indescribable, is it the ending you want? Yes or no. There is hope, there is sadness.

"My brother's death was unfortunate. I thought I died too. But there are even more unfortunate things, worse than war. That is life goes on."
Such a heavy description of life. Perhaps this is also the growth of a teenager.

Is the story true? yes. It's so true that although there is a hormonal smell from beginning to end, in the end, what is left to the protagonist is only a brief "airplane show" (still covered in a quilt), and the young life of ordinary people may be almost like this.

I love this sensitive, confusing but beautiful youth in troubled times!

Wild Reeds quotes

  • François Forestier: I admit it. I want to sleep with Serge. I want to sleep with Henri. What if another one comes along next week? It's awful. What will become of me?

  • Henri Mariani: Give blow jobs instead of sermons. You'd be more honest and useful.
