I have been paying attention since the first trailer of Monster Hunt was released. Judging from the trailer and the plot introduction, it should be a very creative movie, because the subject matter is relatively new, mainly because the image of monsters is very interesting. , and it is the subject that the director is good at.
After watching the finished film, I was a little disappointed. I thought to myself, I wasted a good theme, a good story setting, and a good idea, which is exactly what Chinese films lack the most - creativity. Although the whole story is about the relationship between humans and demons, the concept of demons is completely weakened in the whole movie, that is to say, demons are not like demons at all (except for their appearance, and most of the important supporting characters are still similar to demons). Appears in the form of a human), and even the last big villain is a monster for the last few minutes. As the saying goes, monsters are born of monsters, and people are born of people. Only in this way can we distinguish the difference between monsters and people. The whole movie fails at this point, and monsters are no different from people. It's just a group of people in demon skins, unable to differentiate.
The whole story is also full of loopholes. Even if the little demon Huba is replaced by a human child, it is still valid. It is nothing more than a court battle to protect the prince (the narration at the beginning of the story also explains this), but the villain is not the current "Emperor", It is a "foodie", and he didn't explain it at all at the beginning. He thought it was an ambitious man who wanted to revive the Tianshi Group. I never expected that he was a foodie, and he started Wanshou Wujiang without any explanation. Full Monster Banquet (Can you live forever after eating a little monster?). The little demon has a lot of roles, but it seems too pale for the development of the story. It is purely for the sake of being cute. There is no coherence in the story. The narration at the beginning talks about the birth of the little demon. Humans, but the whole movie has nothing to do with this concept that will change everything (is it going to be reserved for the sequel?). To say that the most complete story line is the growth process of the male protagonist Tian Yin played by Jing Boran, so the movie should be renamed "The Growth of Catching Demons". Therefore, all kinds of love, friendship, and love are a lot of blood, it is the miserable childhood abandoned by the father, it is the difficult choice of having to betray friends, or it is pure and hypocritical love, come come come, do this Bowl of dog blood.
There are a few points to be listed separately, because the slot is too obvious:
1: The story explains that the father of the male protagonist, the father of the male protagonist's father is a very powerful person, and the father of the male protagonist saved a lot of demons, Then he left his own children, and he didn't know where to go, and let his children live with those humanoid monsters, and there was also a grandma with a bad head. So many demons and people live together and no one finds out? The villain Zhong Hanliang said that the demons are almost caught by humans, so the gang of Tianshi group is fine, that is, as long as there is a demon who intrudes into the world, he will be arrested by the Tianshi, and there is still such a thing. The big gang of demons live in the human world, isn't this a slap in the face? It fully shows the dereliction of duty of the Tianshi profession, and the final performance also shows incompetence (this will be discussed separately later).
Two: The characteristics of demons, except that they look like demons, there is no difference between them and humans. They also love bickering between neighbors, love each other and kill each other. The most complained about is the door demon. As a door demon, a little professional There is no morality, just hit twice. The biggest shape feature of the demon in the whole film is estimated to be many pairs of hands. As a three-dimensional animation character, it is really difficult to fight, especially fighting with humans, which is even more difficult. One real shot, one three-dimensional, and human There are a lot of body endings, it is really difficult to cooperate, but you can't fool yourself. Except for those handsome upgraded shots, the other fighting shots can hardly see the movements, that is, the random fights, and the punches. Can't see the foot, can't see the attack, can't see the dodge. All complex fighting movements are either blocked by foreground objects, or they are panoramic shots.
Three: The role of the Celestial Master. Celestial Master, as the most important character occupation in this film, should have a very brilliant setting, all kinds of small magic, all kinds of gadgets, just like the exorcist in Journey to the West, the bounty hunter in the Western film, all of them are He is a master, and everyone has big moves. As a result, he saw a few small spells of Bai Baihe, a two-money celestial master, and those little paper figurines (a bit like the paper figurines in Spirited Away), except for Jiang The four-money celestial master in Wu Yan has a bit of a role in the show. The other celestial masters should be of high rank. As a result, just after posing for a big move, they were hanged and beaten by the big villain. They were hanged and beaten without fighting back. The power makes people sigh, how did the two-money white lily survive? In addition to being able to fight little demons, and from time to time, I will be blackmailed when I meet my peers. Jiang Wu, as a senior of the four-money celestial master, a person whose ability and level are higher than Bai Baihe, was deceived by the singing and dancing of two demons, which is really a shame for the celestial master!
Four: Actors. It was really a failure to cast Jing Boran as the male lead. The lines were not read very well, and the expression was not very good. In short, he was very hypocritical and pretentious, and when he spoke, it made people play. Of course, it can't be said that he is not at all. Well, at least he did a good job when he parted ways with the little demon. Bai Baihe's performance is very bright. He is a not-so-fun and amusing celestial master. The language and actions are also very suitable, and the sense of role is also very strong. Jiang Wu's performance is also very natural, and he doesn't talk much. Tang Wei has a good shape, but as a monger who specializes in buying and selling demons, he doesn't take business seriously at all, and his role is very vague and incomprehensible. Yao Chen just came to spoof himself to amuse everyone (and also has the most laughs in the whole film), although the jokes are very low-end.
Finally, "Monster Hunt" is a relatively new movie (in China), and we should encourage filmmakers to try different types. It is indeed a very good subject matter, and it can be very colorful and creative. The subject matter, as a result, made the most common mistake Chinese filmmakers make - the story is not well told. It makes the whole story very flat, the motivation is not clear enough, the logic is a bit messy, and many places seem inexplicable. However, the setting of the demon is quite brilliant. As a movie fan, we hope that more filmmakers will explore some new things, not only youth magic love action movies, there should be more types to enrich the movie market, but don't forget, all the performances, special effects, actions All serve the story, the story is not good, everything is empty.
